My friend Mia invited me to a swimsuit party. But the moment I arrived, I realized something was off. Everywhere I looked, there were only girls—laughing, chatting, and having fun in the pool. And then I realized—I’m the only guy at the party.
Jamie Carter
the only male guest, friends with Mia, average build with short brown hair, curious and slightly awkward.
Adrianna Blair
one of Mia's closest friends at the party, friends with Mia and some of the other guests, petite with curly red hair, witty and protective.
Mia Thompson
host of the party and Jamie's friend, friends with all the guests, tall with long blonde hair, outgoing and confident.
When I got home from my shift at the gym, there was a message on my phone from Mia.
Hey!
I’m having a party tonight and I’d love for you to come.
Girls’ night, but I feel like you would fit right in.
Bring wine!
I stared at the message for a minute.
Mia and I were friends, but I had never been to a girls’ night with her.
I wasn’t really sure that I fit in with a group of women, but I also didn’t want to insult Mia by telling her that she must have been drunk when she sent me the message.
I decided that it would be better to show up and see what was going on, rather than just texting her back to cancel.
I got ready for the night by changing into a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt.
I didn’t know if people were going to be dressed up or dressed down, so I played it safe and stuck with average clothing.
I also brought a bottle of wine, as Mia had suggested.
It was only about a ten-minute drive to Mia’s house, so I was there quickly.
When she answered the door, she was wearing a tiny bikini and a cover-up that tied at her waist.
"Hey! You look great."
She leaned in to give me a hug and kiss on the cheek.
"Thanks. Here’s some wine."
I handed her the bottle of wine and followed her into the house.
The sound of splashing and female laughter got louder as we walked through the house to the back door.
Mia’s living room was open to the backyard, so as soon as I stepped out the door, I saw that there were eight women lounging around the pool.
All eight of them were wearing swimsuits and they were all female.
I was suddenly aware of how out of place I was with my jeans and t-shirt.
All eight women looked over at us as Mia shut the door behind us.
Adrianna was sitting on the edge of the pool with her legs dangling in the water.
She raised an eyebrow at Mia, then turned back to me.
I clutched my bottle of wine a little tighter to my chest, not knowing what else to do with my hands.
"Everyone! This is Jamie, my special guest for tonight. Jamie, this is everyone."
Mia waved a hand across the pool deck to indicate all of her friends.
She walked over to one of the lounge chairs that were set up near the pool and picked up a plastic cup.
"Sit here," she said, pointing to another chair beside hers.
Then she reached into a nearby cooler and pulled out another cup.
"I brought wine," I said, holding up the bottle.
"Great. I have cups."
Mia smiled as she poured some wine into each cup. I sat down in the chair and Mia handed me a cup before taking a seat beside me.
I looked over at Mia and tried not to make it obvious that I was checking out her body in her tiny swimsuit.
She was wearing a black bikini that left very little to the imagination.
She had big tits and a tight stomach—she worked hard at keeping herself in shape for work at the gym—and she had long legs that ended in high heels that made her look like a model.
The other girls by the pool were dressed similarly, but none of them were as hot as Mia.
One of them kicked off from the wall and started swimming laps while another one got up from her chair and jumped into the water from off the side of the pool.
Two others got up and went inside, probably to grab more drinks or something from inside the house.
"So, Jamie," Mia said, leaning back in her chair, "do you remember that night at the gym when we closed up together?"
I hesitated, glancing at the other women who were now watching us with curious eyes. "Yeah, I remember. Why?"
Mia took a sip of her wine, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "Well, you left something behind that night... and I've been waiting for the right moment to give it back."
I shifted uncomfortably in my chair.
Mia leaned closer, her wet hair dripping onto the sleeve of my shirt.
The other women paused their conversations and turned to watch us with interest.
Adrianna set down her drink and leaned forward, her eyes narrowing at Mia.
"Remember when you were changing after your workout?"
Mia asked, twirling her wine glass around in a circle.
"You were in the locker room, getting changed out of your gym clothes?"
My stomach dropped.
The locker room.
My gym bag.
That small black notebook that I always carried with me...
I let out a nervous laugh.
"What did I leave behind?"
Mia leaned closer to me, her breath warm against my ear.
"You left your notes."
The other women leaned forward, their faces expectant.
I gripped my wine glass a little tighter, trying not to let my hands shake.
The smell of chlorine from the pool mixed with the coconut sunscreen that Mia was wearing, filling my nose.
I swallowed hard as Mia pulled back from me with a knowing smile.
She reached behind the lounge chair and pulled out my black notebook.
It was water-damaged and worn at the edges.
Adrianna stood up abruptly, sending her chair scraping across the concrete.
I flinched at the sound, but I couldn’t take my eyes off of my notebook in Mia’s manicured hands.
