I have been in little debbies second chance group homes for almost 5 years now, the girls in this house are all bipolar, I am going to tell you how to tell if someone is bipolar and how to survive group homes.
I was scared at first, but I got used to it.
I have a best friend in here, her name is Debbie Johnson.
She is the sweetest person I know.
She is a little crazy though.
She has my back no matter what and I have hers, we are like sisters.
We are allowed to go home for visits, when we go home for visits Debbie comes with me.
My mom says I am lucky to have a friend like her.
I know I am.
Debbie is also impulsive, she does things before she thinks about them.
Sometimes we get in trouble for what she does, but it is always worth it.
Like the time she took all of the girls in the van on a road trip we will never forget, we went to the beach and had the best time.
Surviving Little Debbie's Group Home
We just got back from our latest home visit, I am sitting in the kitchen with my mom.
She is cooking dinner, it smells so good in here.
My mom looks at me, "How is Debbie?"
She asks her eyes curious but also concerned.
"She is good, she is still impulsive but she is my best friend."
I tell her, "I don't know what I would do without her."
My mom nods, "I know you are lucky to have a friend like her."
She says as she stirs the pot on the stove.
"Debbie has made this place feel like home for me."
I tell her, "When I first got here it was scary, but Debbie made it feel like home."
My mom smiles softly, "I know she did sweetie."
She says as she stirs the pot again.

"Debbie and I have had some great adventures since we got here."
I tell her, "Like the time we went to the beach."
My mom laughs, "Yes that was a great adventure wasn't it?"
She asks as she puts the lid on the pot.
"Debbie is impulsive though."
I tell her, "She does things before she thinks about them."
My mom nods, "Yes I know that."
She says as she sets the timer on the stove.
"Sometimes we get in trouble for what Debbie does."
My mom paused, looking at me intently.
"Has she ever done anything that made you feel unsafe?" she asked, her voice laced with concern.
I hesitated, then replied, "There was one time, but it wasn't as bad as it sounds."

My mom nodded, "I see."
She said, "I'm glad you have Debbie as a friend, but I also want to make sure you're safe."
I nodded, "I know mom, I am safe here."
I got back to the house and Debbie was pacing in our room.
She looked up when she saw me, "Lily, you won't believe what Jessica did," she blurted out, her eyes wide with a mix of excitement and frustration.
Jessica is one of the girls in our home.
She is new and has been causing trouble since she got here.
"What did she do?"
I asked, my curiosity piqued.
Debbie took a deep breath and began to recount the events that had transpired while I was away.
"She challenged Mrs. Johnson during group therapy," Debbie said, her hands gesturing wildly as she spoke.
"She said that Mrs. Johnson's methods were outdated and that she was holding us back."

Debbie's voice rose in indignation as she continued.
"Mrs. Johnson tried to calm her down, but Jessica just kept going. She started yelling at Mrs. Johnson and then at the other girls."
I listened intently to Debbie's words, nodding along as she spoke.
Jessica's behavior sounded typical for someone who was trying to stir up trouble.
Debbie finished her story and let out a sigh.
