1960s shlock horror beach party b-movie takes on a new twist when the roles are reversed and the groovy surfers, beatniks and bikini bimbos terrorize the corny campy rubber-suited monster. In the end, Love & Understanding prevails. But not before some slapstick campy horror.
Ella
She is a scientist who created a giant mutated crab monster to save the ocean's ecosystem. She is intelligent, determined, and quirky. Ella struggles to control the monster and longs for human connection. At a beach party, she grapples with the monster's uncontrollable attacks on people. Despite the chaos, she forms an unexpected bond with a handsome surfer, leading to a humorous and lighthearted encounter.
Beachgoers
They are partygoers enjoying a beach party while unaware of the impending monster attack. They are carefree, rowdy, and superficial. Initially focused on fun and games, they become terrified when the monster emerges from the ocean. Their frantic attempts to escape highlight their fear and vulnerability in the face of danger. The beach party serves as a backdrop against which Ella grapples with her creation and her feelings.
Monster
He is a giant mutated crab Ella created to protect the ocean. He is clumsy, loyal, and gentle. Intended as a solution to oceanic threats, he grows out of control and ends up causing destruction at a beach party. Despite his size and strength, he is easily startled by loud noises and romantic gestures. His interactions with Ella reveal her determination to control him and her hidden feelings of loneliness.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my years as a marine biologist, it’s that no matter how carefully you plan, no matter how many precautions you take, sometimes the damnedest things are going to happen.
Like the time my research vessel capsized in a storm and I had to spend the night clinging to a buoy in my bikini.
Or the time my graduate student turned out to be an alien from planet Zorgon, bent on stealing all my research for his mind-control plan to take over the world.
Or the time I decided to play God and create a giant mutant crab monster to save the ocean’s ecosystem from all the threats arrayed against it—only to have it turn out that my creation had other plans.
Like destroying a beach town in 1960s southern California.
"Stop! Come back!"
I cried, running down the beach after my monster.
The beachgoers, who’d been having a groovy time partying and listening to music, were now screaming and running like hell.
"Hey!"
One of the surfers stopped and stared at me.
"You’re the one who created that thing, right?"
I nodded miserably.
"Yeah. I’m so sorry. I never meant for it to cause any harm."
"Sorry? Sorry isn’t going to cut it, lady. You need to get it under control."
"How?"
The surfer stared at me.
"I don’t know. That’s your job."
He took off running again, and I followed after him, stumbling in the sand.
"Excuse me," said a voice behind me.
I turned to see a lanky teenager with thick black glasses and a pocket protector.
He was holding a clipboard and had a look of intense concentration on his face.
"I’m Jimmy. I won the science fair last year for my project on oceanic currents. I’ve been tracking some unusual activity in the area and was wondering if you could tell me what’s going on."
"Unusual activity?"
I repeated, trying to keep my eyes on my monster as it tore through the beachside shops.
"Yes. There seems to be a disturbance in the water. I think it might be related to the strange creature that just came out of the ocean."
"You can see it?"
I asked, surprised.
"Of course," he replied.
"I have 20/20 vision."
I blinked at him, not sure how to respond.
"Well, I need to go," I said finally.
"I have to stop this thing before it causes any more damage."
"Okay," Jimmy said, nodding.
"But if you need any help, just let me know."
I turned and ran after my monster again, but before I could get very far, I heard a loud crash behind me.
I turned to see Jimmy lying on the ground, an umbrella stuck in his head.
"Oh my god!"
I cried, rushing over to him.
"Are you okay?"
Jimmy struggled to sit up, pulling the umbrella out of his hair. "What happened?"
"I don’t know," I said, looking around frantically.
"I heard a noise and then you were on the ground."
Suddenly, a man came running up to us, tripping over his own feet and crashing into us both.
We all went tumbling down onto the sand together, with him on top of us.
"Ow," he groaned, rubbing his head.
"What happened?"
"You fell on us," Jimmy said matter-of-factly.
"Oh. Sorry about that."
The man climbed off us and stood up, brushing himself off.
He was tall and slender with slicked-back black hair and a well-groomed beard.
He was wearing a lab coat over his suit and tie and looked like he belonged in a TV studio rather than on a beach in California. "I’m Dr. Richard Stone," he said, extending his hand to me.
"And you are…"
"I’m helping Jimmy to his feet while Dr. Stone brushes the sand off his pristine lab coat.
Through the screaming crowd, I notice a small purple logo on his pocket.
It’s the Zorgon Industries logo, the same company that supplied me with the experimental DNA I used to create my monster.
Dr. Stone’s eyes widen when he sees me staring at it.
He starts backing away from us, fumbling with something in his coat pocket.
"Hey," Jimmy says, pointing at Dr. Stone’s wrist.
"What are those things?"
I look down and see that Dr. Stone has strange markings on his wrist that look like suction cups.
