"So anyway, I might need to tell you something else…"
I pause, and he looks at me expectantly.
I take a deep breath.
"I’m late, honey. Late as in…pregnant."
There.I said it.
I look down at my stomach, and suddenly I feel like I can’t breathe.
Clark is silent, and I look up to find him staring at me, not saying a word.
He looks like he saw a ghost.
Which is pretty much how I feel right now.
"So…you are sure?"
I look up at him, trying to gauge his reaction.
Not that I can, because his face is completely expressionless.
But I know he well enough to know that if I can’t see anything, then he is truly shocked.
And right now, he is not showing any signs of emotion, which means he is floored.
"Yeah…I took three tests."
I hold up three fingers, then drop my hand as I look away from him.
There is no way I am going to lie about this.
Not when the truth is going to come out sooner or later.
"I’m definitely pregnant."
"Yup!"
I chuckle, even though there is nothing funny about this situation.
Superman & Lois
I watch his face, my heart pounding as the seconds stretch into an eternity of silence.
His jaw works, like he's trying to form words but can't quite manage it.
I shift my weight, considering whether to fill this unbearable quiet with nervous chatter, when I notice his eyes softening.
The rigid set of his shoulders relaxes, and the ghost of a smile tugs at the corner of his mouth.
My breath catches as he takes a step toward me, his movements deliberate and careful, as if approaching a skittish animal.
Superman & Lois
I watch his face intently, my fingers fidgeting with the hem of my shirt.
He takes another careful step forward, his movements slow and measured.
My heart leaps into my throat as he reaches out, his hand hovering uncertainly near my stomach before dropping back to his side.
The silence in the apartment is almost deafening, punctuated only by the sound of our ragged breathing.
I open my mouth to make another joke, to break the tension that has settled between us like a thick fog.
But the words die on my lips when I see the pure wonder spreading across his features.
His eyes meet mine, shining with a mixture of awe and disbelief.
"You mean...we're going to be parents?"
His voice is barely above a whisper, but there's a tremor of excitement I can't miss.
"Yeah, Clark, we're going to be parents," I reply, my own voice trembling with the weight of the revelation.
