I was sitting in my room on the floor with my legs crossed, staring at the wall in confusion.
I had been with Scourge for years now, and he still continued to cheat on me.
I didn’t know if I should stay with him and try to work things out, or if I should leave and move on with my life.
Scourge was still cheating, and it was tearing me apart.
I heard a knock at the door, and I got up to answer it.
When I opened the door, I saw Sonic standing in the hallway with a plate of food in his hands.
"What are you doing here?"
I asked him.
"I brought you some food," he said.
"I was worried about you. You haven’t been eating properly."
I looked at him and smiled, feeling touched by his actions.
Sonic had been looking after me since I had my child.
He walked inside and placed the plate on the coffee table.
"What’s wrong?"
Sonic asked me.
I sighed and sat down on the couch next to him.
"Scourge is still cheating on me," I said to Sonic, feeling sad and betrayed.
"He just won’t stop. He keeps saying that it’s not his fault and that everyone is just trying to get him into trouble."
Sonic frowned angrily when he heard what Scourge had said.
"He’s a liar," Sonic said to me.

I sink deeper into the couch cushions, pulling my knees to my chest.
Sonic shifts to face me, his eyes filled with concern.
Through the window, I watch the sunset paint shadows across my living room floor.
My phone buzzes on the coffee table, another message from Scourge with hollow excuses.
I reach for it and silence it, tossing it aside.
Sonic reaches for my hand, his touch gentle but hesitant.
"Maybe it’s time you make a list," he says softly.
"A list of what you want for your future. For your child."
I grab a notepad from the coffee table and hold a pen in my trembling hand.
Tears blur my vision as I write the first line: "A home without lies."

I stare at my handwriting, the words wavering as more tears fall.
Sonic reaches over, his hand steady as he catches a tear rolling down my cheek.
Our eyes meet, and I freeze.
In the quiet of the room, I realize how close we’ve become on the couch.
The space feels different suddenly—warmer, safer.
My breath catches as his hand lingers on my face, his thumb brushing my skin so gently.
It’s a gesture so unlike Scourge’s rough dismissals.
I clutch the paper tighter, my other hand gripping the couch cushion.
Emotions swirl within me—a mix of gratitude and something else I can’t quite name.
I close my eyes, feeling the weight of my decision settle into certainty.
