Adrenaline is pumping through my veins as I stand in the dimly lit corridor.
My heart is hammering against my chest, and I can't seem to get my breathing under control.
I'm not sure if I'm ready for this, but I know that it's too late to back out now.
I have come too far to turn around and walk away.
After taking a deep breath, I lift my hand and gently knock on the door.
There's no response, and I find myself wondering if I should try again.
Maybe she didn't hear me.
I start to raise my hand, but before I can knock a second time, the door swings open, and I find myself staring at a petite blonde who looks like she could be the same age as me.
She has a look of surprise on her face as she takes in my appearance, and I wonder what she sees when she looks at me.
There are so many things that I don't know about myself, and I have no way of knowing what's going on in her mind right now.

I jump when I hear the knock at the door.
I'm not expecting anyone, and I can't imagine who it could be.
The hotel is beautiful and safe, but it's also eerily quiet today.
There are only a few other guests staying here right now, and most of them are off exploring the city rather than sitting around in their rooms like I am.
The knock comes again, louder this time, and my heart rate picks up.
It's not that the knock was aggressive; it was actually quite polite.
But there's something that feels off about it, like it doesn't fit with the rest of the world.
Taking a deep breath, I put down my book and head for the door.
I'm not sure what to expect when I open it, but I'm definitely not prepared for the tall, dark-haired stranger who's standing on the other side.
I don't recognize him at all, and there's no reason for him to be here in the first place.

Her eyes go wide when she sees me, and I worry that I've made a mistake by coming here.
But I can't turn around and leave now.
I've come too far to give up so easily, and I need to know if there's something more between us than just a shared past or if this is all in my head.
"Can I help you?"she asks after a moment, her voice soft and hesitant.
She's looking at me like she's not sure what to make of me, and I wonder what she sees when she looks at me.
I have no way of knowing, and that thought makes me uneasy.
Maybe I shouldn't have come here after all.
This was a mistake, and I should have known better than to think that she would be able to shed any light on the darkness that surrounds me.
Just as I'm about to turn around and walk away, she speaks again, and the sound stops me in my tracks.
Did I really just hear her say what I think she said?
