The city never slept, neither did I.
It was 3 am when I got the call.
A homicide, no evidence, no witnesses.
Just a phone with the last call that ended with 'You know, the stars always shine brightest when someone's light goes out.'
I reached the crime scene.
It was in the middle of Central Park.
A lake, surrounded by huge trees and thick shrubs.
The victim was a young girl; she couldn't be more than 20 years old.
A tall, muscular officer was waiting for me.
'Mark Thompson, sir.'
He said stiffly.
'The victim is Sarah Jennings.'
Sarah?
Sarah was a forensic expert and one of my closest friends.
I almost fell on her lifeless body.
Her mobile was lying nearby with the last call displayed on the screen.
It was mine.
I dialled the number, it rang twice before a low voice answered, 'Detective James Carter, I see you are here.'
The line went dead.
