I was running late, but then again, so was everyone else.
It was a good thing we weren’t in a hurry.
"Sorry I’m late, everyone. I stopped by the mess hall on the way here and grabbed some coffee."
I held up the cup in my right hand as I dropped into my chair.
"Anyone want some?"
No one answered my question or even acknowledged the offer.
The view screen at the front of the room was blank, so I assumed we were still in the planning stages of our mission.
"Okay, let’s get started."
I looked around the table.
Even though there were only five of us here, we all had cups of coffee in front of us.
That was a lot of caffeine for what would be a long day.
"Dr. Flynn, you wanted to start?"
"I’m ready when you are, Captain."
Marcus looked up from his notes.
We had been friends since before I took command of the ship, and hopefully still would be after this meeting was over.
"Alright. Let’s get started."
I looked at my notes rather than at the view screen.
"What do we know about this planet?"
"We know it’s there."
Marcus smiled at me through his glasses.
