My full name is Samuel Nico Thanatos.
I am 18 years old and of Egyptian-Greek background.
I was born without a leg, so I use a wooden leg to walk.
My left eye is dark blue, almost black, and my right eye is light blue.
I have short, spiky hair that is dark blue in color.
I have a small tattoo of a snake on my right arm and a small tattoo of a star on my left shoulder.
My weapon of choice is a khopesh, which was passed down to me from my father.
I also own a makhaira, which was given to me by my mother.
She is alive and owns a cane, as she lost her left leg due to illness.
The snow owl that follows me around is named Nyctea.
I wear a pendant in the shape of Anubis' head around my neck.
Anubis is the Egyptian god of mummification and the afterlife.
I consider him to be my father and follow his teachings.
I am proud to be his descendant and take pride in being a warrior like him.
I am curious and determined to learn more about my heritage and the world around me.
Snow Owl
It is a Friday afternoon.
I am in the academy's courtyard, training the students in combat.
They have all left for the day, but one student, Marcus, is still lingering around.
He is my newest student and has been struggling to keep up with the others.
I am standing in front of a large mirror, demonstrating a khopesh stance to Marcus.
I am wearing my usual attire: a black tunic and pants, with my khopesh strapped to my waist.
Marcus is standing behind me, watching intently as I demonstrate the stance.
As I move through the stance, I catch Marcus' reflection in the mirror.
He is staring at my Anubis pendant, which I have removed from around my neck and placed on the ground next to me.
Marcus' hand slowly reaches for the pendant, and he takes a step closer to me. I continue to demonstrate the stance, pretending not to notice Marcus' actions.
The pendant glints in the setting sun, and I can see Marcus' eyes fixed on it.
I take another step back, allowing Marcus to inch closer to me.
My khopesh glints in the sunlight, and I can feel its weight in my hand.
I am ready for anything that may happen next.
Marcus' hand reaches for the pendant, and I can see his fingers brush against the metal.
Just as his fingers make contact with the pendant, I pivot on my wooden leg and bring the khopesh's dull edge to rest against his wrist. Marcus freezes in place, his face draining of color as he realizes what has happened.
I lock eyes with him in the mirror, and he knows that he has been caught.
I maintain steady pressure with the khopesh while studying his reflection.
Marcus' hand trembles beneath the blade, and a bead of sweat forms on his forehead.
The only sound in the courtyard is the scraping of my wooden leg against the ground as I shift to face Marcus directly.
Marcus' eyes dart between my face and the pendant, which is still lying tantalizingly close on the ground.
I notice that his other hand has clenched into a fist - a telltale sign that he is considering something desperate.
Snow Owl
Keeping my voice level, I ease the khopesh back just enough to show that I am willing to listen, but leave it hovering as a reminder of his precarious position.
"Care to explain yourself?"
Marcus straightens his posture, and a sneer replaces the fear that had momentarily crossed his face.
"You think you're special because daddy's a god?" he spits out, yanking his wrist away from my khopesh.
"That pendant belongs in a museum, not with some crippled half-breed playing warrior."
His words sting, but I keep my expression neutral.
I shift my weight slightly, keeping my wooden leg planted firmly on the ground.
Marcus takes another step closer to the pendant, this time more boldly.
I adjust my stance, ready to counter whatever move he makes next.
But then I notice something odd - his eyes have taken on an unnatural red glow.
"Marcus, what's happening to your eyes?" I ask, my voice tinged with genuine concern.
He hesitates, the sneer faltering as he glances at his reflection.
