I, Sir Reginald, had heard of the kingdom of Pookies.
I did not believe it.
I thought it was just a story made up to scare children.
Yet here I was, standing at the gates of said kingdom, staring at a group of creatures that looked like rabbits in diapers and pastel-colored clothes.
They were about three feet tall with ears that perked up on the ends just like cartoon rabbits.
The one in front of me wore a pair of pink shorts, a white shirt with puffy sleeves, and a pair of slippers that had little unicorns on them.
He also had a big ol' bow in his hair.
I could not help but laugh when the pookie looked up at me and blinked slowly.
"You find something funny, human?" he asked in a deep voice that did not fit his body at all.
"I am sorry," I said, still chuckling.
"It is just I did not believe you guys existed. Let alone wore diapers and clothes like this."
"Like what?"
"Um…"
I didn’t know how to say it without insulting him, but he beat me to the punch.
"Cute clothes!"
"Oh, yes! Of course! I mean you guys are some of the cutest creatures I have ever seen!"
The pookie looked at me skeptically before nodding and stepping aside.
I stepped through the ornate gates, my armor clanking against the polished marble threshold.
The pookie waddled ahead of me, his diaper swishing with each step.
Pink and lavender buildings lined the cobblestone street, their rounded windows trimmed with lace curtains.
Flower boxes overflowed with rainbow-colored blooms.
Other pookies peeked out from doorways and gardens, their ears twitching curiously at my presence.
Some wore frilly dresses, others sported overalls with heart-shaped patches.
A group of young ones bounced past on pogo sticks, their diapers extra fluffy.
My guide stopped at a fountain shaped like a giant rubber duck, where crystal-clear water sparkled in the sunlight.
At the rubber duck fountain, I sat down on a plush cushioned bench beside my guide.
The cascading water created a soothing background noise.
I leaned forward, genuinely curious.
"Tell me about your people," I said, watching a group of pookies hop past in matching sailor outfits.
My guide adjusted his pink bow tie and smoothed his diaper before responding.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, crystalline orb.
With a flick of his wrist, the orb began to glow, projecting shimmering images into the air.
Ancient pookies appeared, performing powerful magic that burst like confetti.
They defended their realm with spells that looked like cotton candy clouds.
All while maintaining their adorable appearance.
"These are the stories of our ancestors," the pookie said, his voice tinged with pride.
"We may look harmless, but our magic is what keeps the kingdom safe from those who underestimate us."
I blinked in surprise, realizing that beneath their whimsical exterior lay a formidable power.
