I was lying in bed when I heard the sound.
It was faint, but I knew I'd heard something.
I lay there for a moment, listening.
I heard it again - a light weight knocking, like someone tapping on a wall.
I rolled over and looked at my husband; he was fast asleep.
I listened again; the sound was getting louder.
I knew then that it wasn't just a faint knock on the wall; someone was hitting the wall.
I rolled out of bed and tiptoed to the door.
As I approached, the sound became even clearer - someone was tapping on my wall, very lightly.
I stopped just short of the door, my heart pounding in my chest.
I stood there for a moment, trying to decide what to do next.
The tapping continued, growing slightly louder.
