I had just turned eighteen and graduated from high school when I decided to become a servant.
While it may seem strange to some people, servitude is a common choice for many young people in my country.
It’s an opportunity to see the world, learn a new language, get training in a particular skill, and earn a good wage.
Of course, there are also downsides.
As a servant, you have no rights whatsoever.
You’re completely at the mercy of your employer.
If they choose to be cruel or abusive, there’s very little you can do about it.
Despite the risks, I was determined to become a servant and see the world beyond my small town in Argentina.
I applied to an agency and waited.
Months went by with no word, and I had begun to give up hope when I finally received a letter inviting me for an interview.
I went to the city and was put through a series of interviews and tests.
Then I waited again.
It wasn’t until several weeks later that I received another letter telling me that I had been chosen for a position in the Czech Republic.
