Sarah finds out she is pregnant, but the same day, her husband Michael asks her to sign divorce papers in order to be with his childhood sweetheart, Emily Sovereign.
"I’m pregnant," I blurted out, unable to contain my joy.
"We’re going to have a baby."
Michael’s smile broadened as he stood up and took the test from my hand, staring down at it in awe.
"Are you serious?"
I nodded, feeling tears prick at the corners of my eyes.
He looked up at me, his face softening with emotion.
"That’s amazing, Sarah. I love you so much."
His words made my heart swell with love and happiness.
This was the moment I’d been dreaming of for years.
I couldn’t believe it was finally happening.
He set the test down on the coffee table and pulled me into his arms, holding me tight against his chest.
"I’m so happy," he whispered.
"I love you so much."
"I love you too."
We stood there for a long moment, wrapped in each other’s arms, reveling in the joy and excitement of our news.
I felt like I could stay in his arms forever, but eventually he pulled away and took a step back, looking down at me with an expression that was harder to read.
"What’s wrong?" I asked, my heart starting to race with anxiety.
"Nothing’s wrong," he said quickly, but his eyes were troubled as they met mine.
"I just…"
He took a deep breath and let it out slowly before meeting my gaze again.
"I want a divorce."
The words hit me like a ton of bricks, and for a moment I couldn’t process them.
"What?"
I whispered, feeling like the room was spinning around me.
"I want a divorce," he repeated, his voice firm but gentle.
"I’m sorry, Sarah. I’ve fallen in love with someone else."
My heart shattered into a million pieces as I realized what he was saying.
This couldn’t be happening.
He couldn’t really be leaving me for another woman—could he?
"Who?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
