Her relationship with Ruby is complex, marked by rivalry and mutual respect. Weiss struggles with her own identity outside of her family's expectations but remains dedicated to her training.
I'm Ruby Rose.
I'm a huntress in training at Beacon Academy.
I'm not sure if I should be writing a journal.
I'm not really sure why I'm writing one.
But here I am.
I guess it's just something to do.
My sister Yang and I attend Beacon together.
She's a year older than me, but I managed to skip a few grades and attend with her.
We're learning how to be huntresses so that we can protect the world from evil.
My dad Taiyang Xiao Long is a hunter, and Yang and I want to be just like him when we grow up.
He's really cool.
So, today was my first day at Beacon.
Yang showed me around and helped me meet other students.
We met Weiss Schnee and Blake Belladonna, two students that also attend Beacon.
Weird names, right?
They're both huntressesintraining just like us.
Weiss is super elegant and proud.
She comes from a really powerful family, but she wants to make a name for herself as a huntress.
Blake is more reserved than Weiss and me combined.
She's super smart, though, and knows how to use her weapons well.
We're all in the same combat training class.
Weiss is really good at it, and she's been giving me tips on how to improve my form.
Blake is pretty good too, but she's not as flashy as Weiss.
I'm still trying to get the hang of it.
I was sitting in the courtyard with Weiss and Blake when I noticed something weird.
Weiss was telling me about how to hold my scythe, and I noticed that her eyes glinted in a weird way.
I leaned forward to look at her eyes more closely, and I think I saw something else in them.
It looked like a tiny image of a person.
I'm not sure what it was, but it made me curious.
I stared at her eyes for a long time, and I think she started to get uncomfortable.
She looked away from me, and I saw the image move in her eyes again.
It looked like a person waving their hand.
I raised my own hand, and I think I saw the image in her eyes do the same thing.
I waved my hand back and forth, and the image in her eyes followed it. Weiss's voice sounded funny when she spoke next.
She said something about how she thought I should practice more, but her voice sounded distant and dreamy.
I looked up from her eyes to see that she was staring off into space with a weird expression on her face.
Blake raised an eyebrow at me, like she knew something was wrong.
I waved my hand before Weiss's face, and she followed it with unblinking eyes.
That's when I realized that I'd accidentally used my semblance on her.
My semblance is called "Mind Control," but it doesn't really work like that.
It makes people stare at me if they look directly into my eyes for too long.
They don't really do what I tell them to do; they just stare at me blankly until someone snaps them out of it or they look away from my eyes.
I didn't mean to use it on Weiss, but I guess I did without realizing it when I stared at her eyes for so long. I snapped my fingers to break the semblance, and Weiss blinked rapidly before looking back at me with a confused expression on her face.
"Did you just use your semblance on me?" she asked in a funny voice.
"Yeah," I said awkwardly.
"I didn't mean to."
"Well, that's... interesting," Weiss said slowly.
"I've never seen anyone use their semblance like that before."
Blake leaned in, her voice low and curious.
"Ruby, does anyone else know about your semblance?"
I hesitated, glancing between them. "No, just you two now."
"Good," Blake said, her voice soft but firm.
"It's good that you're careful with your secret."
Weiss nodded in agreement, her eyes still fixed on me.
"I think that's a good idea. My semblance is a little weird too, so I can understand."
I felt a surge of gratitude towards them.
It felt nice to have people I could trust.
"Thanks for understanding," I said quietly.
The sun was getting lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the courtyard.
I looked over at Weiss and saw that Blake had gotten up and wandered away.
Weiss's eyes met mine again, and a mischievous thought crossed my mind.
I focused my attention and felt the familiar tingle of my semblance activating.
Weiss's gaze locked onto mine, her usual sharp expression replaced by one of pliant docility.
"Weiss," I said, testing the waters.
"Why don't you sing something?"
I wasn't expecting her to actually do it, but to my surprise, Weiss began humming a little tune. It was a soft melody I didn't recognize, but it was kind of pretty.
I felt a thrill run through me at the realization that this power was really mine, and I could use it whenever I wanted.
I watched Weiss hum for a few seconds, mesmerized by the way she seemed to be completely under my control.
Just then, Blake appeared from behind Weiss, her footsteps light and silent as usual.
"Ruby," Blake said quietly, "You might want to snap out of it before someone else notices what you're doing."
Blake was right; I couldn't let anyone else notice what I was doing or they might figure out that I'd used my semblance on Weiss.
The courtyard was starting to empty out as the sun dipped below the horizon, and I felt a strange urge to test my semblance further.
Weiss's humming had a soothing quality to it, and I found myself wanting to hear more.
I glanced over at Blake, who was watching me with narrowed eyes.
I could tell she was suspicious of what I was doing, but I couldn't risk her alerting anyone else.
With a quick flick of my wrist, I refocused my attention on Blake.
"Blake," I said softly, "You're going to be quiet for a while."
Blake's eyes widened in surprise, but she didn't have time to protest before my semblance took hold.
Her voice died on her lips, and her expression went blank.
I felt a pang of guilt as I watched Blake fall silent, her eyes still full of questions.
"Ruby, this isn't right," Weiss said, her voice breaking through the haze of my power.
I blinked, startled by her sudden clarity. "How are you...?"
"I don't know," Weiss said, her voice tinged with confusion.
"But I think I broke out of it."
I stared at her in disbelief, my mind racing.
If Weiss could break out of my semblance, that meant she was immune to it.
But that was impossible; no one was supposed to be immune to another's semblance.
The courtyard was growing darker as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the ground.
I felt a strange urge to test my semblance further, to see just how far I could push it.
I looked over at Weiss, her eyes still fixed on me with a curious expression.
"Weiss," I whispered, my voice barely audible.
"Go back to our room, change your outfit, and wait for me on the bed."
Weiss's gaze locked onto mine, and I felt the familiar tingle of my semblance activating once more.
She nodded slowly, her movements deliberate and controlled.
Without a word, she stood up and began walking away from me, her footsteps echoing off the empty courtyard walls. Blake remained silent beside me, her eyes fixed on Weiss's retreating figure.
I couldn't read her expression, but I knew she was watching closely.
I watched Weiss disappear into the darkness of the dorm hallway, my heart pounding in my chest.
I felt a mix of excitement and dread coursing through me; what was I doing?
I took a deep breath and followed Weiss into the dorms, my footsteps light on the polished floor.
As we reached our room, I hesitated for a moment before pushing open the door.
Weiss was already inside, sitting on our bed with a serene expression on her face.
I stepped inside, closing the door behind me, knowing there was no turning back now.
