I woke slowly to the sound of a baby crying.

I sat up, looking around the dark room.

I reached over, turning on the lamp on my bedside table.

The soft glow of the light illuminated my side of the bed and part of the nursery.

I stood, walking into the nursery.

I picked up my three-month-old son, holding him close I changed his diaper.

After swaddling him back up, I sat in the rocking chair I had inherited from my mother, rocking my grandfather.

I had always felt close to him, even after he passed away when I was ten.

I felt like he was with me still, guiding me and protecting me.

I ran my hand over the wood of the chair, feeling his presence.
