I never thought I’d be the type of girl to have a college dorm story.
You know, the kind where I meet my new roommate, and we become fast friends, or even better, where I meet my new best friend…who also happens to be the love of my life.
I mean sure, I’ve heard stories about it.
How people go to college, start fresh, meet new friends, and sometimes even find love.
But for the past year and a half, that hasn’t been me.
I’ve kept to myself, attended classes, gone home to my mom’s, and repeated the cycle.
I don’t allow myself to get too close to others.
I’m afraid of getting hurt again.
I’m afraid someone will find out about my past and shun me.
So keeping to myself is easier and safer.
It also means I don’t form connections with others.
I don’t make friends.
And I definitely don’t fall in love with someone.
But today is different.
Today is the start of something new.
"Hello?"
A soft voice calls from the hallway as I stand in our dorm room, staring at my boxes and trying to figure out where to start.
I turn just in time to see a woman with long, curly brown hair step inside our room.
She’s dressed in a pair of jeans and a white tank top, her large breasts spilling out of the top.
Her hair is messy, as if she rolled out of bed on the other side of town and came straight here.

She’s beautiful.
I stand there, frozen in place, my heart pounding in my chest as she steps into our shared space.
My palm grows sweaty as I force myself to extend it to her.
"Hi," I say, my voice barely above a whisper.
The woman’s eyes light up as she drops the duffel bag she was carrying with a thud on the floor.
Instead of shaking my hand, she steps forward and pulls me into a hug.
Her perfume hits me first, something floral and sweet that fills my senses before her soft curves press against me.
I stiffen at first, not used to being touched by anyone other than my mom or sister, but as she holds the hug, I slowly relax into her touch.
When she finally pulls back, her hands linger on my shoulders for a moment before she drops them to her sides.
"I'm Lily, by the way," she says with a warm smile, her eyes sparkling with an unexpected familiarity.
Roommates
"I'm Emma," I reply, trying to ignore the flutter in my stomach.
"Emma," she repeats thoughtfully, "I think we have more in common than you might realize."
I step back from our hug, my cheeks flushing as Lily drops her bags on the empty bed.
Several boxes are stacked by the door.
"Need help unpacking?" she asks, and I nod, surprised by my own boldness.
Lily beams at me and nods enthusiastically.
I move to grab a box while she starts pulling clothes from her suitcase.
As we work side by side, I steal glances at her - the way she hums softly while folding shirts, how she carefully arranges photos on her desk.
When she pulls out a worn fantasy novel I recognize, my heart skips a beat.
"You like 'The Enchanted Forest' series too?" I ask, unable to hide my excitement.
Lily looks up, her eyes widening in surprise. "Are you kidding? I've read it at least five times! It's actually why I'm here."
I pause, confused. "What do you mean?"
