Nora
She is a 19yearold college student living with her best friend Jake. She is selfconscious, shy, and hopeful. Nora has a secret crush on Jake and is embarrassed after accidentally exposing herself in the bathroom. She is haunted by past rejection and fears being unwanted. Determined to approach Jake, she plans to ask him out, despite her doubts and fears. Over the next few days, they exchange awkward messages, leading up to a tentative plan for them to go out.
Jake
He is Nora's 30yearold best friend and roommate. He is charming, understanding, and patient. Jake unknowingly becomes the object of Nora's affections after a chance encounter in the bathroom. Despite his age difference from Nora, he treats her like a friend and offers guidance. He seems intrigued by Nora's flustered behavior and agrees to meet her for coffee to discuss their awkward encounter. His kindness and interest in Nora suggest that he may feel more than friendship towards her.
I was in the bathroom, in just my towel.
I came out of the shower and bumped into Jake as he was walking past.
The towel flew away and for a second, he saw me naked.
"Oh god I'm so sorry."
I said as I quickly grabbed my towel and held it against my body.
Jake's eyes were wide as he stared at me, then he shook his head.
"No need to apologize," he said as he walked away from me.
I watched him as he went to our living room and sat on the couch before picking up the television remote.
I was still standing in the hallway, too shocked to move.
I couldn't believe what had just happened.
I was so embarrassed, mortified even.
I had been living with Jake for a couple of months now.
He was my best friend and roommate.
But even though I didn't want to admit it, I had a secret crush on him that I had been harboring for a while now.
Ever since I met him, I knew that I was attracted to him but I didn't want to ruin our friendship by confessing my true feelings.
So instead, I kept them locked away deep inside of me.
I was too afraid of losing our friendship and I definitely didn't want to lose my roommate.
I stood there, frozen in the hallway, my wet hair dripping down onto my shoulders.
I clutched the towel tighter around my body as I watched Jake flip through the channels on the TV.
He kept his eyes fixed on the screen, not once looking up at me.
My bare feet were cold against the wooden floor but I couldn't make myself move.
The sound of a sitcom laugh track filled the awkward silence between us.
A drop of water slid down my back, making me shiver.
Finally, my legs unlocked and I took one step backward, then another.
The floorboard creaked beneath my foot.
Jake's head started to turn.
I catch a glimpse of his profile starting to turn toward me and panic jolts through my body.
My feet move before my brain can process what I'm doing.
The wet towel slips in my grip as I stumble backward, nearly losing it again.
The hallway seems to stretch on forever as I shuffle away from Jake, my bare feet leaving damp prints on the wooden floor.
My hands shake while fumbling for my doorknob, missing it twice before getting a proper grip.
I hear the TV volume lower slightly, making my movements sound thunderously loud in comparison.
