I was just about to head to bed when I heard a noise coming from my closet.
It wasn’t like a creaking noise, like the door was opening or anything.
It was more like a shuffling noise, like something was moving around in there.
I stopped in my tracks and stared at the closed door.
I live alone, so it’s not like anyone else would be in there.
And I definitely didn’t have any pets.
So what the hell was making that noise?
I took a step toward the closet and then stopped again.
Was I really going to open it?
What if there was a serial killer in there waiting to chop me up into little pieces?
I shook my head at myself.
There was no way that was happening.
I took a deep breath and reached for the closet door.
My hand trembled as I gripped the handle.
I hesitated for a moment, my heart pounding in my chest.
Then, with a burst of courage, I yanked the door open.
Inside, a tall figure with iridescent blue skin and multiple eyes stared back at me.
I gasped and stumbled backward, nearly tripping over my own feet.
The alien raised his hands in a gesture of peace.
"Please, don't scream," he whispered.
My mind raced with questions.
Who was he?
Why was he here?
Before I could speak, a loud bang echoed from outside my window.
Xelthor's eyes widened in fear.
"They're coming," he said urgently.
I turned to look out the window, my breath catching in my throat.
Outside, shadows moved swiftly across the lawn, heading straight for my house.
"What do you mean 'they'?" I asked, my voice trembling.
"No time to explain," Xelthor replied. "We need to hide."
He grabbed my arm and pulled me back into the closet.
I barely had time to close the door before the front door burst open.
Footsteps pounded through the house.
I held my breath, trying to stay as quiet as possible.
Xelthor pressed a finger to his lips, signaling me to stay silent.
The footsteps grew louder, closer.
I could hear voices now, speaking in a language I didn't understand.
Fear gripped me as I realized whoever was in my house was looking for Xelthor.
The closet door rattled slightly as someone tried to open it.
I squeezed my eyes shut, praying they wouldn't find us.
After what felt like an eternity, the voices moved away and the footsteps faded into the distance.
I let out a shaky breath and opened my eyes.
Xelthor peeked out of the closet, then motioned for me to follow him.
We crept out of the closet and into the hallway.
"Who were those people?" I whispered.
"Enemies," Xelthor replied. "They want to capture me."
"Why?" I asked.
"I can't explain right now," he said. "We need to get out of here."
He led me down the hallway and into the living room.
The front door hung open, broken off its hinges.
"We have to go," Xelthor said urgently. "Now."
I nodded and followed him out the door.
We ran across the lawn and into the darkness of the night.
As we ran, I couldn't help but wonder what I had gotten myself into.
Who was this alien?
And why were these people after him?
Suddenly, headlights appeared in front of us, blinding us momentarily.
A black van screeched to a halt and armed men jumped out.
"There they are!" one of them shouted.
Xelthor grabbed my hand and pulled me toward a nearby alleyway.
We sprinted down the narrow passage, our pursuers hot on our heels.
Just when I thought we might escape, a figure stepped out in front of us, blocking our path.
Xelthor skidded to a stop and I crashed into his back.
