My name is Xiao Yan, and I’m from the Xiao family.
My ancestors were powerful Dou Qi practitioners, but I was a disgrace to the family.
I was born with a natural waste physique.
At the age of fifteen, I was still unable to cultivate Dou Qi, and my family members saw me as a burden.
They were so ashamed of me that they decided to break off my engagement with the girl I loved, Xun Er.
It was the most humiliating thing that had ever happened to me.
Xun Er was from a prestigious clan and couldn’t be tied to someone like me, especially now that I was deemed a waste.
Since the day I lost her, I locked myself in my room and rarely went outside.
I didn’t want to see the pity in other people’s eyes or the disdain in their expressions.

My family had left me with nothing but a name, which I refused to let them ruin.
For years, I searched for ways to cultivate Dou Qi.
I visited different clans and even looked through ancient relics and books.
But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t find a solution.
One day, I climbed Tianmu Mountain to end my life.
I was so close to jumping off a cliff when an old man appeared out of nowhere and stopped me.
He asked why I wanted to die, and I told him about my problems.
He then took me under his wing as his disciple, and I got to learn from him.
The old man taught me some profound skills which allowed me to cultivate Dou Qi quickly without any effort on my part.
It was a stark contrast to what I’d been through before, but it felt like a dream come true.
With his help, I managed to break through the barrier and become an official Dou Qi practitioner at the age of eighteen.
From that moment on, everything changed.
I moved out of my family’s house and rented a new place in the city.
Even though my family was still furious with me for leaving them, they couldn’t do anything about it.
After all, I was no longer a waste.
I may have been a late bloomer, but at least I made it.
During that time, I met a girl named Rong’er.
She was my childhood friend and had been supportive of me when everyone else wasn’t.
Rong’er was the one who gave me the strength to keep moving forward when I was on the verge of giving up.
She recognized me when she saw me in the city and ran up to me with tears in her eyes.
She told me that she had waited for me all these years.
Rong’er was a sweet girl who did everything she could to make me happy.
But I realized that I was actually in love with Xun Er.
Rong’er was too good for me, so I decided to let her go.
In the meantime, I continued to work hard in cultivating Dou Qi.
One year later, I was cultivating in a quiet room when I suddenly felt a sword piercing through my chest.
The pain was excruciating, and a sea of despair washed over me.
I knew that I wouldn’t survive this time.
As I struggled to breathe, my vision started to blur.
Just as I was about to pass out, an old man appeared out of nowhere in front of me.
He grabbed the sword sticking out of my chest before it could go any deeper and pulled it out gently.
“You should thank me for saving your life,” he said.
“Who are you?”
I couldn’t believe that someone had actually appeared before me so suddenly.
After all, no one else knew that I was here in the first place.
“I am just an old man passing by,” he replied with a smile.
“Don’t worry too much.
You’ll find out who I am soon enough.
Besides, you should be thanking Lil’ Fire instead.”
As he spoke, I noticed a small, flame-like creature flickering around his body.
It let out a soft sigh, and the old man looked at it lovingly before turning back to me and saying, “Lil’ Fire has already taken a liking to you, so consider yourself lucky.”
After that, the old man and the creature disappeared from sight.
Even now, I’m still not sure if that was all just a dream or an illusion brought on by blood loss.
But it didn’t matter anymore because I was alive, and that was all that I cared about.
After I got up from the ground, I realized that there was an ancient ring next to me.
It was surrounded by an array of light, which seemed to be protecting it from something .
When I tried to take it off, the ring suddenly floated towards me and landed on my right hand perfectly without even leaving a single mark on me.
At that moment, I felt as if something had awakened inside me and was eager to get out again.
A small figure appeared in front of me before I knew it, and it turned out to be an adorable creature that looked like a small flame.
“Lil’ Fire, what are you doing?”
I called out to it, but it seemed to be in a daze and didn’t respond right away.
