My name is Maria wife of Dav our son Peter I cheated on my husband with a coworker i was manipulated by my coworker my husband forgive me and stayed with me now he is starting to feel distant and cold I called him out on it
I was sitting in the living room with my legs crossed when my husband came in.
He dropped his briefcase and kissed me, as he always did.
I kissed him back.
It was not passionate, not anymore.
It was just a kiss on the cheek.
Sometimes I wondered if he even realized he did it.
"Hi," I said.
"Hi"
He went to take off his shoes.
"Where's Peter?"
"At his friend's house."
I watched him go into the kitchen.
He opened the fridge and looked inside.
I heard him open a beer.
I knew he did this every day.
He sat on the couch and turned on the TV.
Then he looked at me.
"You know, I've been thinking."
I felt a chill go up my spine.
"What?""I have been thinking... maybe we should get a divorce."
I felt like I had been punched in the stomach.
"What?"
He repeated himself, slowly, as if he was talking to a child.
"I have been thinking... maybe we should get a divorce."
"Why?"He shrugged.
"I don't know. I guess I've been feeling pretty distant lately. I don't know if you've felt it either."
All of the feelings of guilt flooded back to me.
I had been cheating on him with a coworker for almost a year before it ended…well, before I ended it.
Redemption's Shadow
I nod slowly, whispering, "Maybe you're right," feeling the weight of my guilt.
Dav's eyes flicker with surprise, but he quickly looks away, sipping his beer.
The room is silent except for the low hum of the television.
I stand up, my legs shaky, and walk to the window, staring out at the street below.
The evening light casts long shadows across the room, making the furniture seem like dark sentinels.
"Do you think Peter will understand?" I ask quietly, my voice barely audible.
Dav doesn't answer immediately; instead, he turns off the TV and stands up, joining me by the window.
The sudden silence is oppressive, and I can feel the tension between us like a living thing.
"We need to talk to him together," he finally says, his voice steady but distant.
I turn to face him, searching for any sign of emotion in his eyes, but they're a mask of neutrality.
"When?" I ask, trying to keep my voice from shaking.
Dav shrugs, his shoulders barely moving. "Soon. We can't put it off forever."
Redemption's Shadow
I feel a cold dread spreading through my veins as I realize that our conversation is far from over.
Suddenly, the doorbell rings, shattering the silence like a gunshot.
I jump, my heart racing, as Dav turns to answer it.
"Who could that be?" I wonder aloud, but Dav just shrugs again and walks out of the room.
I hear him open the door, and a familiar voice fills the hallway.
"Mom? Dad? I forgot my backpack," Peter says, his tone cheerful and oblivious.
Dav glances back at me, his eyes filled with a mixture of relief and hesitation, as if this unexpected interruption has bought us a momentary reprieve.
