My name is David, son of Paul. I am a Knight in the service of the Kingdom of Aledress, ruled by King Morgan the First. Three years ago, goblins invaded our southern frontier, and my father went to fight them but never returned. Raised in the palace with Princess Amanda, we grew up together and shared a bond of love. Soon, perhaps, we can truly be together; but I at least get to see her face and golden hair every day.
I was rummaging through what was once my father's chambers when I stumbled upon a hidden compartment behind his old desk.
Inside, I found a small, glowing artifact with intricate metalwork.
It pulsed with an otherworldly light, and I could feel its power emanating from it.
I had no idea what it did or what it meant, but I could sense that whatever it was, it was important.
My father left no note or indication of what happened to him.
He went to fight the goblins that invaded our southern frontier, and never returned.
This artifact might hold the key to his fate.
I couldn't ask anyone about it; there was no one left who knew.
The only person I could confide in was Princess Amanda.
I've known her since we were both children growing up in the palace together.
We shared a bond of love that only grew stronger as we aged.
I carefully wrapped the glowing artifact in cloth and made my way through the dimly lit corridors of the palace.
The flickering torches cast eerie shadows on the stone walls as I walked, the soft rustle of my footsteps echoing off the cold floor.
The guards nodded as I passed, unaware of the secret I carried, their eyes fixed on the distant horizon beyond the windows.
Reaching Amanda's chamber, I knocked softly, my heart racing with anticipation.
The door creaked open, and Amanda's bright blue eyes widened at the sight of the artifact, her golden hair cascading down her shoulders like a river of sunset hues.
"David, what is that?" she asked, her voice a mix of curiosity and concern, her slender fingers drumming against the doorframe.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves, and explained how I found it in my father's chambers and its possible connection to his disappearance.
Amanda's gaze never left mine as I spoke, her eyes sparkling with intensity.
She examined the artifact closely, her fingers tracing the intricate metalwork with a gentle touch, as if trying to unlock its secrets.
"We need to show this to King Morgan," she decided firmly, her voice laced with determination.
I nodded in agreement, a sense of trepidation creeping up my spine at the thought of presenting this mysterious object to the king.
As we turned to leave, a loud crash echoed from the corridor outside, followed by the sound of shattering glass and muffled shouts.
Amanda's eyes snapped towards the door, her face pale with alarm.
"What's happening?" she whispered, her hand instinctively reaching for mine.
I didn't have time to answer as a figure burst into the room, slamming the door shut behind them.
It was one of the palace guards, his face flushed and sweaty, his eyes wild with fear.
The guard's chest heaved as he struggled to catch his breath, his words tumbling out in a panicked rush.
"Your Highness, David, we've been breached! Goblins have broken through the palace gates!"
Amanda's grip on my hand tightened, her eyes flashing with determination as she met my gaze.
I nodded, understanding the urgency of the situation. We needed to secure the artifact and inform King Morgan, and fast.
"We need to get to the hidden passage," I said, already moving towards the secret door behind Amanda's chamber.
The guard blocked our path, his hand on the hilt of his sword. "I'll escort you, Your Highness. It's not safe for you to be alone."
I hesitated for a moment, unsure if we could trust him, but time was precious. I nodded curtly, and the guard fell into step beside us.
As we navigated the dimly lit corridor, each step echoed ominously off the cold stone walls. The air was thick with tension, and I could feel the weight of the artifact pressing against my chest.
We reached the throne room, and I pushed open the heavy doors. King Morgan stood at the far end of the room, deep in discussion with his advisors.
I stepped forward, holding the wrapped artifact aloft. "Your Majesty," I called out, my voice echoing off the high ceiling.
The king's eyes snapped towards me, his face etched with concern. "David, what's happening?"
I took a deep breath, trying to explain the situation as quickly as possible. "Goblins have breached the palace gates, Your Majesty. We need to—"
But before I could finish, a loud crash echoed from outside the throne room, followed by the sound of screams and clashing steel.
The king's face darkened, and he turned to his advisors. "Sound the alarm. We're under attack."
As the advisors scrambled to obey, I felt Amanda's hand slip from mine. I turned to see her staring towards the door, her eyes fixed on something behind me.
