4th of July pool party in orange county with the cast of the TV show the O.C
Cooper Andrews
He is a high school senior in Newport Beach, California. He is sarcastic, observant, and witty. Cooper attends a 4th of July pool party with his friends and the cast of The O.C. He navigates the social dynamics of high school parties while keeping a humorous and ironic tone. Cooper finds himself caught between his crush on Marissa's friend and the attention from Samantha, while trying to maintain his relationships with Chase and Kelly.
Chase Adams
He is Marissa's older brother and a high school student. He is protective, athletic, and humorous. Chase attends the party with his friends and family and uses his football skills to rescue a child from drowning. He navigates his relationships with his sister and his friends, including Cooper. His playful banter with Cooper showcases his loyalty and camaraderie.
Kelly Kapur
She is Cooper's longtime girlfriend and a high school student. She is confident, playful, and determined. Kelly has been in a relationship with Cooper for over two years and faces competition at the party from Samantha. Despite this, she remains focused on her relationship with Cooper and enjoys the lighthearted competition surrounding them.
"Yay! I love pool parties!"
I said, trying to sound as enthusiastic as possible.
"Me too," Chase replied, and smacked me on the back of the head.
"Okay, maybe not as much as you do, but who doesn’t like a good 4th of July party?"
"Yeah, especially one that has Marissa’s cute little friend pretending to be interested in me."
I whispered to him.
He chuckled and shook his head.
"You’re such a moron," he said.
"Yeah, I know."
I looked around and saw all of my friends mingling with some of the cast members of The O.C.
It was weird having them at our party, but it was also kind of cool.
Our little group had been friends with Summer and Anna for a few years now, and it was nice having them around.
Marissa was also at the party, but she was only there because her friend wanted to meet some of the guys from California.
I knew I would never have a shot with her, so I didn’t even bother trying.
Instead, I spent most of the party talking to her cute little friend who had a wicked sense of humor and sarcasm that rivaled mine.
I weave through the crowd, snagging a red plastic cup of lemonade from the drinks table.
The ice cubes clink against the side as I dodge past two kids running with pool noodles.
Summer and Anna are lounging on adjacent deck chairs, their designer sunglasses reflecting the afternoon sun.
Summer waves me over, patting the empty chair beside her.
I glance across the pool, where Samantha is watching me from behind her own pair of oversized sunglasses.
Her expression darkens as I settle in with the TV stars.
Anna leans forward, lowering her voice so only we can hear.
"So, you won’t believe what happened on set yesterday," she says, a mischievous grin spreading across her face.
I lean back in my lounge chair, taking a sip of lemonade.
Summer tilts her head, her ponytail swinging over her shoulder.
"Try us," she says.
Anna launches into the story, telling us about how two of the lead actors got into a fight during filming.
Apparently, one of them had been flirting with the other’s girlfriend, and things escalated pretty quickly.
"I mean, it was crazy," Anna says, gesturing wildly with her hands.
"They were throwing punches and everything."
Summer gasps, her eyes wide with excitement.
"That’s insane," she says.
I nod, taking another sip of my lemonade.
"Definitely sounds like drama central," I say.
Just then, Summer interrupts Anna’s story to add her own version of events.
She starts waving her hands around, splashing pool water onto my legs. "Oh my god, you guys," she says, laughing.
"I can’t believe that happened."
Anna rolls her eyes good-naturedly and continues talking.
I listen intently as she finishes the story, nodding along and asking questions when necessary.
As we chat, I notice Samantha edging closer to our little group.
She pretends to be adjusting her towel on the lounge chair next to us, but I can tell she’s trying to eavesdrop on our conversation.
I glance over at her and catch a glimpse of her scowling at me from behind her sunglasses.
I turn back to Anna and Summer, trying to ignore Samantha’s obvious jealousy.
"So, what are you girls doing tonight?" asks Summer.
"We’re having a cast-only celebration at Newport Beach," replies Anna, reaching into her beach bag and pulling out a laminated card with a holographic stamp on it. She dangles it in front of me like a carrot on a stick.
"This is our ticket in," she explains with a wink.
Summer squeals in delight and grabs the card from Anna’s hand, examining it closely.
"Ooh, this looks like so much fun," she says wistfully.
I look over at Samantha again and see that her scowl has deepened even further as she watches our conversation from across the pool deck.
