A origin story about a vampire super hero girl from the early 1990s
I was just a normal girl, until the first time I died.
I was walking home from my part-time job at the library when I heard a noise in the alley.
I should have kept walking, but I didn’t.
I should have run when I saw what was making that noise, but I didn’t do that either.
It was a mistake, and it cost me my life.
The last thing I remember is the sound of my own screams as the monster’s fangs sank into my neck.
The next thing I remember is waking up in a pool of blood with an insatiable hunger for more.
I didn’t know what had happened to me, but I knew one thing for sure: I was no longer human.
I blinked, trying to clear the haze from my vision.
The alley was dark, the only light coming from a flickering streetlamp at the far end.
My clothes were soaked with blood, and the metallic scent filled my nostrils.
I pushed myself up on shaky arms, my head spinning.
What had happened to me?
I stumbled forward, each step a struggle as I fought against the dizziness.
The hunger gnawed at me, a relentless beast clawing at my insides.
I needed to find help, or at least some answers.
The streets were eerily quiet, the usual bustle of the city replaced by an unsettling calm.
I turned a corner and nearly collided with someone.
“Elara?” Lucas’s voice was filled with shock and concern.
He grabbed my shoulders, steadying me.
“What happened to you?”
“I... I don’t know,” I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper. “I woke up in the alley... covered in blood.”
His eyes widened as he took in my appearance.
“We need to get you out of here,” he said firmly.
“Come on.”
He led me through the winding streets, his grip on my arm reassuringly strong.
We ducked into an old, abandoned building, and Lucas quickly shut the door behind us.
“Sit down,” he instructed, guiding me to a dusty couch.
I sank into the cushions, exhaustion washing over me.
Lucas knelt in front of me, his expression serious.
“Elara, do you remember anything? Anything at all?”
I closed my eyes, trying to piece together the fragments of my memory.
“There was... a monster,” I said slowly. “It attacked me. Bit me.”
Lucas’s face paled.
“A vampire,” he muttered under his breath.
“This is bad.”
“What do you mean?” I asked, panic rising in my chest.
“What’s happening to me?”
“You’ve been turned,” he explained. “You’re a vampire now.”
The words hit me like a punch to the gut.
A vampire?
How could this be real?
“I can’t be...” I started to protest, but Lucas cut me off.
“I know it’s hard to believe,” he said gently. “But we’ll figure this out together. I promise.”
Tears welled up in my eyes as fear and anger battled for dominance inside me.
“How am I supposed to live like this?”
“We’ll find a way,” Lucas assured me. “You’re not alone in this.”
Just then, the door creaked open and Jenna stepped inside.
Her eyes locked onto mine, and she nodded grimly.
“I tracked the disturbance,” she said. “It led me straight to you.”
“Jenna,” Lucas greeted her with relief. “We need your help.”
She crossed the room and stood beside Lucas, her gaze never leaving mine.
“We’ll uncover the truth behind your transformation,” Jenna vowed. “And we’ll use your new abilities for good.”
I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself.
There was so much I didn’t understand, but one thing was clear: I couldn’t face this alone.
With Lucas and Jenna by my side, maybe—just maybe—I could survive this nightmare.
Suddenly, there was a loud crash from outside the building.
We all froze, our eyes darting toward the source of the noise.
“What was that?” I whispered, fear gripping my heart once more.
Lucas exchanged a worried glance with Jenna before turning back to me.
“Stay here,” he ordered. “We’ll check it out.”
Before I could protest, they were already moving toward the door.
My heart pounded in my chest as I watched them disappear into the darkness beyond.
Seconds felt like hours as I waited, every sound amplified by my heightened senses.
Then came another crash—closer this time—and a blood-curdling scream that sent chills down my spine.
