I watched her through the window.

She was rocking my baby brother, whispering something to him.

I wasn’t sure what she was saying, but whatever it was, he was smiling.

My three-year-old brother always smiled when she was around.

I smiled too.

I liked her.

She made me feel safe.

My mother died a year ago.

Well, actually, she died giving birth to him.

Sometimes I get mad at him because I feel like he took her away from me.

My father tries to make me understand that it wasn’t his fault, but I still get angry sometimes.
