I was nineteen years old when I found out I was pregnant.
The first thing I did was to check my body.
I didn't have a big belly like other pregnant men.
My stomach was still flat, just like before.
I was grateful for this.
I didn't want my body to change.
I went to the doctor again after a few weeks.
The doctor told me that my baby was healthy.
But he also said that I wouldn't get a big belly like other pregnant men.
I was happy to hear this.
I didn't want my body to look different.
I stayed at home and read books every day.
My mom worked at home, too, so we were together all the time.
I loved reading and watching movies.
I didn't like going out and meeting people.
I liked being alone and doing my own things.
This was why I didn't have a boyfriend.
And I didn't know who my baby's father was.
But I was happy that I had a baby growing inside me.
I didn't care whose baby it was.
I just wanted to be a good father and take care of my child.
When the doctor told me that my baby would be a girl, I was so happy!
I couldn't stop smiling for hours.
My mom was happy, too.
My Unwanted Son
I sit on my favorite spot on the couch, wrapped in a soft blanket.
I'm reading another pregnancy book.
Mom comes into the room with a cup of hot chocolate for me.
She sits down next to me and opens her laptop.
She puts it on her knees and starts working.
My Unwanted Son
She looks at my flat stomach and asks, "When is your due date again?"
I tell her it's in five days.
She closes her laptop and says, "We need to double-check everything. The hospital bag, the car seat installation, emergency contacts..."
I watch as she rushes to my prepared nursery, checking everything for the tenth time.
Setting my book aside, I notice that my muscles feel tense from sitting too long.
Mom is still in the nursery, organizing the baby clothes for the tenth time today.
I mention to her that I want to take a relaxing bubble bath.
She immediately springs into action, insisting on running the water herself to make sure it's not too hot for me.
She adds my favorite lavender bubbles and tells me to take my time.
My Unwanted Son
I slowly make my way upstairs, holding the railing as my body feels heavier than usual.
Lowering myself into the warm bath, I notice that the water feels different against my skin today.
It's more sensitive than usual.
The lavender scent fills the bathroom as I lean back, letting the bubbles surround me.
Mom knocks gently on the door to check if I need anything.
I assure her I'm fine and thank her for taking care of everything.
My Unwanted Son
Just as I close my eyes to relax, a sharp sensation jolts through my abdomen.
My eyes snap open.
The baby has kicked for the first time, a distinct flutter beneath my flat stomach.
I grip the edge of the tub, my heart racing.
