She is a student in a school with a close relationship with her parents and twin Ethan. She is curious, imaginative, and affectionate. Hana often dreams about having a twin and is thrilled when she meets Ethan, a boy who could be her match. After drinking the potion to become twins, she experiences changes in her body and interests, becoming more feminine. She enjoys spending time with Ethan/Hana and adapting to her new life as a girl.
I always wanted a twin.
I know it's impossible, but still, I wish I had one.
I imagine how fun it would be to have a twin and how my parents would be happy to see us together.
I even imagine myself having a twin and going to school with her, playing with her, sharing things with her, and even getting scolded by our parents together.
Having a twin is like a dream for me.
I don't know why, but I always imagine my twin to be a girl.
Not just any girl, but a cute Korean girl with long hair and big round eyes.
I don't know why I imagined my twin like that.
Maybe because I saw some Korean dramas before and the actresses in those dramas are really cute and beautiful.
I don't know what would happen if I really had a twin.
Would we fight over things?
Would we be happy together?
Would we go to school together?
Would we sleep in the same bed?
And what about my parents?
Would they be happy to see us together?
Or would they scold us for fighting over things?
I have so many questions in my mind, but I know it's impossible for me to have a twin.
I stare at the small glass vial in my hand, the pink liquid inside catching the afternoon sunlight.
My heart races as I swirl it around, watching it shimmer.
The Korean girl who gave it to me stands nearby, her eyes fixed on me with an eager expression.
"Drink it," she says softly, her voice filled with anticipation.
I hesitate for a moment, my mind racing with questions.
What is this strange concoction?
Will it hurt me?
But curiosity gets the better of me.
I uncork the vial and bring it to my lips, feeling the coolness of the glass against my skin.
The liquid tastes sweet, like strawberry milk, but there's a hint of something else beneath its surface.
As soon as the liquid touches my tongue, my vision blurs and my legs wobble.
The classroom spins around me, and I feel a tingling sensation spreading through my body.
My knees buckle, and I collapse onto the cold floor.
My eyes flutter open to a soft pink ceiling, my head still fuzzy from the effects of the potion.
I push myself up slowly, taking in my surroundings.
I'm lying on a plush bed covered with delicate floral bedsheets that match the curtains swaying gently in the morning breeze.
Two identical white desks sit against opposite walls, one cluttered with makeup, hair accessories, and cute plushies.
I reach up to touch my hair, and my fingers brush against long, silky black locks falling past my shoulders.
Before I can process what's happening, a bundle of energy bounces onto my bed, jolting me awake.
"Annie, wake up!"
Hana chirps, her bright eyes sparkling with excitement as she tugs at my arm.
"Mom made breakfast!"
I catch a glimpse of myself in the vanity mirror across the room and gasp.
My trembling legs carry me to the full-length mirror mounted on our closet door.
The girl looking back at me has delicate features, glossy black hair falling past her shoulders, and wide dark eyes rimmed with natural-looking lashes.
I touch my face, watching my reflection mimic the movement with slender fingers.
The cotton pajamas I'm wearing are pink with little bows, matching Hana's exactly.
When I try to stand straight and masculine, my body automatically shifts into a more graceful pose.
Hana giggles behind me and adjusts my hair, showing me how to smooth it properly.
Following Hana downstairs, I grip the handrail tightly, my legs unsteady in these unfamiliar pink slippers.
The kitchen is bathed in warm light, and the scent of cooking food fills the air.
My mom stands at the stove, wearing a floral apron over her dress as she cooks breakfast.
But it's not my mom.
It's a Korean woman I've never met before.
"Annie, Hana, your favorite pancakes are almost ready," she calls out in accented English.
I glance at the table where Dad sits reading the newspaper.
He looks up and smiles at us, but he's not my dad either.
He has Asian features and dark eyes that crinkle at the corners when he smiles.
"Good morning, girls," he greets us warmly.
As I take in this unfamiliar scene, memories start flooding my mind.
I sit at the breakfast table, watching as Hana's mom serves pancakes.
I awkwardly pick up a pair of chopsticks and try to use them, but they keep slipping from my fingers.
Hana giggles and helps me hold them correctly.
I take a bite of the pancake, but it's not sweet like I expected.
Instead, it's savory and slightly spicy.
I look at Hana in confusion.
"What's this?"
I ask, gesturing to the pancake.
"It's kimchi," she replies, her eyes wide with surprise.
"You don't know what kimchi is?"
I shake my head, feeling embarrassed.
"Kimchi is a traditional Korean food," she explains patiently.
"It's made from fermented vegetables and spices. You're supposed to eat it with rice."
I nod, trying to understand.
But my mind is still reeling from the strange new world I find myself in.
As we eat, Hana's dad asks us about our day at school.
I nod and smile, pretending to understand what he's saying, but my mind is racing with questions.
How did I end up here?
Why am I living as Annie?
And how do I get back to my own life?
The rest of breakfast is a blur as I try to process everything that's happening around me. After breakfast, Hana's mom clears the table while her dad reads the newspaper and Hana checks her phone.
I sit there feeling awkward and out of place until Hana looks up at me and smiles.
"Annie, are you okay?" she asks, concern etched on her face.
"I'm fine," I reply, forcing a smile.
"But I have a lot on my mind."
"Is it about school?" she asks, her brow furrowed with worry.
"No," I say quickly, not wanting to lie to her any more than necessary.
"It's just... everything feels so different right now."
She nods understandingly and reaches out to pat my hand.
"I know how you feel," she says softly.
"But things will get better. Just give it time."
I nod again, trying to believe her words even though they feel hollow inside me. As we finish cleaning up from breakfast, Hana's mom turns to us with a smile on her face.
"Girls, your father and I were thinking of going out for dinner tonight," she says excitedly.
"We can go shopping beforehand if you'd like."
"We'll be ready," Hana replies, her eyes shining with excitement.
I follow Hana upstairs to get ready for school.
She sits at her vanity and begins applying makeup, handing me similar products to follow along.
My hands shake as I try to line my eyes, but somehow, muscle memory kicks in, and my body seems to know what to do even if my mind doesn't.
I reach for the pink lip gloss that Hana always uses and apply it smoothly.
When we stand side by side in the mirror, our faces perfectly made up, I catch myself unconsciously mimicking Hana's delicate head tilt and gentle smile.
