MidReal Story

My Sister’s Flirtatious Friend

Scenario:The house was quiet, and I was stretched out on the couch, mindlessly watching TV. My sister, Jess, was away with our parents, leaving me to enjoy some rare alone time. As I flipped through channels, I heard the front door open. Jaclynn, my sister’s friend, stepped in, wearing a white t-shirt and short shorts. She moved in front of the TV, completely blocking my view. "Really? You didn’t care enough to invite me over while your family’s away?" she pouted, placing a hand on her hip. "Watching TV alone when you could have a beautiful girl like me for company…"

I was having a good day.
It didn’t happen often, but I had the house to myself.
Jess was out with Jaclynn, doing whatever it is they do when they’re together.
I don’t know, and I don’t want to know.
All I know is that it’s the only time I get some alone time, and I’m enjoying every single moment of it.
The doorbell rings once, signaling someone’s at the door.
I put the book down that I’m reading and get up from the couch.
Looking through the peephole, I’m surprised to see Jaclynn through the hole.
I thought for sure she was with my sister.
I open the door, and she’s standing there, looking cute as hell.
She has curly blonde hair, blue eyes, and a petite body.
"Hey," she says with a smile.
"Um…hi."
"Is Jess here?’ she asks.
"No. She’s out…um…out with you."
She laughs.
"What? No, I haven’t seen her all day. I was hoping she was here."
"She said she was hanging out with you today," I tell her.
"We weren’t planning on it, but she texted me this morning asking if I wanted to hang out. Now that I think about it, she probably lied to me."
"Probably," I agree.
"Want to come in?"
She nods, stepping inside as I move back.
I shut the door and turn to face her.
My Sister’s Flirtatious Friend
"Living room’s this way," I say, gesturing to my left.
She walks past me, and I follow her in.
She plops down on the couch, tucking her legs under her as she makes herself comfortable.
I stop at the armchair, not sure if I should sit down or not.
We’ve never been alone before.
She’s always been Jess’s friend, never mine.
I’ve hung out with them a few times, but it was always a group thing.
Never just the two of us.
The silence between us stretches out uncomfortably.
I don’t know what to say to her, so I stand there awkwardly, waiting for her to say something.
My Sister’s Flirtatious Friend
She glances around the room, her eyes coming to rest on the coffee table where my book lies open.
She picks it up and examines the cover before flipping it over to read the back. "So what do you usually do when you’re home alone?" she asks without looking up at me.
Her question catches me off guard, and my throat goes dry.
I shrug, not sure what to say.
Before I can answer, my phone buzzes in my pocket.
My Sister’s Flirtatious Friend
I pull it out and look at the screen.
It’s a text from Jess: Where are you?
I walk over to the couch and hold it out for Jaclynn to see.
She frowns, her eyes scanning the message.
She gets up from the couch and comes to stand beside me, her arm brushing against mine as she reads the text over my shoulder.
Her perfume is strong, and it makes my head spin.
She smells good, like strawberries or something sweet.
She leans in closer, her hip pressing against mine.
Her hair tickles my chin, and I move back a little.
"She’s been acting weird lately," she says, turning to face me.
She lifts her hand, brushing her fingers against my arm.
A shiver runs down my spine at the contact.
My Sister’s Flirtatious Friend
I move back even more, trying not to be obvious about it.
"Let’s watch TV while we wait for her to explain," she suggests, patting the cushion beside her on the couch. I nod, feeling awkward as I walk around the coffee table and sit down on the end of the couch.
She settles in beside me, scooting closer until her leg touches mine.
I try not to think about it as she reaches for the remote control.
"Do you think she’s hiding something from us?" Jaclynn asks, her voice barely above a whisper.
My Sister’s Flirtatious Friend
I hesitate, then nod slowly. "Yeah, I’ve been getting that feeling too."
Jaclynn sighs, leaning back against the couch. "Maybe it’s time we find out what’s really going on."
