One day, we were both staying in the library till 6 o'clock p.m. when he suddenly said to me, "George, can you give me your notebook for a second?"
I gave it to him and after a few minutes, he gave it back and said, "Thanks."
I said, "You're welcome."
The next day, the same thing happened.
He asked for my notebook and after a few minutes, he gave it back and said, "Thanks."
I said, "You're welcome."
Another day, he asked for my notebook again and after a few minutes, he smiled very sweetly at me...
a smile that will melt my heart.
He said, "George..."
I was hoping that he was going to tell me that he liked me, but unfortunately...
He looked at me angrily and said, "I told you to bring your notebook every time we are in the library till 6 o'clock p.m., but you didn't! Do you not like what I told you?"
I was shocked when I heard him saying that.
I thought he liked me, but I was wrong!
I gathered my courage and asked him, "Why do you keep asking for my notebook?"
My voice was shaking a little, but I didn't look away from his eyes.
His face turned red and he clutched his backpack tightly.
He looked away from me and shifted uncomfortably in his chair.
There was silence between us for a few minutes until I heard footsteps coming from the hallway.
The person was walking away from our direction.
Lio unzipped his backpack and took out my notebook from yesterday.
He opened it and showed me the small notes that he had written in the margins of every page.
He had written them in a very small handwriting, so I didn't notice them before.
He said, "I'm sorry for asking you to bring your notebook every time we are in the library till 6 o'clock p.m. I was just trying to get your attention."
I smiled at him and said, "It's okay."
We both sat at the same table and pretended to study while secretly looking at each other.
My heart was beating fast when I saw him reading my notebook's margins.
He read it from the first page to the last page.
Then, he suddenly closed my notebook and slid it across the table to me.
I gripped my pencil tightly when he asked me, "Are you single?"
His voice was barely above a whisper.
I froze when I heard him asking me that question.
Just a few hours ago, he joined others in mocking me in the hallway.
I took a deep breath and nodded, feeling the weight of his question linger between us.
