Hello, my name is Sheduer Sanders.
I play football for the University of Colorado and I'm hoping to get drafted by the New York Giants next year.
I want to bring back that pride and win them a couple of superbowls for the next few years to come.
I'm pretty fast and can run a 40 yard dash in 4.2 seconds.
I can throw a football about 75 yards downfield.
I have dreads and I'm best friends with Tyler, The Creator.
One day I was talking to my boy Tyler, The Creator on facetime.
He was asking me what I've been up to lately.
I told him I've just been playing football and going to school.
He asked me what my plans were for after college?
I told him how I wanted to get drafted by the New York Giants and win them a couple of superbowls.
He started laughing and said "you damn well better get a couple of rings fam."
I started laughing too and we both just got quiet for a minute.
Then he asked me what I thought about him making a song for me?
I started smiling real big and told him that would be dope!
He said "alright bet." Then we got offline and I started thinking about how far I've come.
From college football to getting drafted by the New York Giants and winning them a couple of superbowls.
My NFL Journey
I sat in the film room at the University of Colorado.
I was watching footage from last season.
I was looking at my throws.
I was looking at my 75 yard throws and how I threw them.
I was looking at the angle of my arm when I threw the ball.
I was looking at how I released the ball.
I was looking at everything.
Darius sat beside me and he said "what are you looking for?"
I told him "just trying to see how I can improve."
He asked me "what's wrong with your throws now?"
I told him "nothing, just trying to get better."
He said "alright."
My NFL Journey
We watched a few more plays and then he pointed out one play where I could have thrown the ball faster.
He said "if you would have thrown the ball here, he would have had a touchdown."
We watched that play about 5 times and I took some notes on what I could do differently.
Then we continued watching game footage.
I thought about how far I've come and how far I'm going to go.
I knew the journey was just beginning.
My NFL Journey
I nodded at Darius and he said "yeah, that would have been a touchdown."
We continued watching the footage.
The room was quiet except for the projector humming.
We watched a few more plays and then Darius pointed out another play where my timing could have been better.
I took some more notes and then we paused the footage on a crucial play.
I imagined myself in a Giants jersey, executing the play flawlessly.
I knew I was ready for the next level.
My NFL Journey
I rewound the footage a few seconds and paused it on the play again.
Darius leaned forward and pointed at the screen.
"Right there, you hesitated for a second."
I nodded, rewinding the footage again.
This time I focused on my footwork before throwing.
Darius leaned closer to the screen and tapped it with his finger.
"Right there, you stutter stepped."
I nodded, replaying it again.
I could see how my stutter step affected the speed of my throw.
The room was dim except for the glow of the projector, casting shadows across our faces.
Darius suggested a drill we could do to improve my reaction time.
We made plans to hit the field after class tomorrow.
My NFL Journey
The next day, Darius and I headed out to the practice field.
The sky was clear, the sun shining down on us.
The air was crisp and energizing as we set up cones for the drill.
Darius demonstrated the sequence of movements, his steps sharp and precise.
I mirrored him, focusing on eliminating my stutter step.
We repeated the drill several times, each iteration smoother than the last.
Sweat trickled down my face as I pushed myself harder, determined to perfect my timing.
Darius nodded at me and gave me quick tips between reps.
As the sun began to set, I executed the drill flawlessly.
Darius clapped his hands and said, "That's it, man! You nailed it."
I grinned, feeling the adrenaline coursing through me.
"Think you're ready for the scouts next week?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
My NFL Journey
I nodded confidently, the sun dipping below the horizon and casting long shadows across the field.
"Absolutely."
We packed up the cones, our breath visible in the cooling air as we walked back to the locker room.
The chatter of my teammates filled the space as we changed out of our practice gear.
I mentally ran through the drill, visualizing each step, each throw.
Darius slapped me on the shoulder.
"Get some rest, man. Tomorrow's gonna be big."
I nodded, knowing tomorrow was crucial.
Tomorrow, I would prove I belonged.
