I was never one to believe in fate.
I mean, I was always told that if I wanted something badly enough, I had to go out and get it.
That life wasn’t about waiting for things to happen, it was about making them happen.
So when I stumbled upon a giant hole in the ground, I didn’t think twice about what could be on the other side.
I just jumped.
It wasn’t until I landed safely on my feet that I realized something was off.
The sky above me was a deeper shade of blue than I had ever seen before.
The trees were taller and the air smelled of smoke and earth.
I looked around, trying to get my bearings.
That’s when I saw it: a giant stone palace in the distance.
"Wow," I breathed out loud.
"What is that?"
I had no idea where I was or how I got there, but something told me this was important.
I took off running toward the palace, not caring that my sneakers were getting torn apart from running through brush.
As I got closer, I saw people walking around, going about their daily business.
My Love for You Will Last Forever
I slow my pace as I get closer to the marketplace at the palace entrance.
There are people in draped clothing, carrying clay pots and woven baskets.
I can see that they are all busy with their daily activities, completely unaware of my presence.
I try to blend in, but it’s hard when I’m wearing modern clothes and sneakers.
Everyone around me is dressed in traditional clothing, and I stick out like a sore thumb.
As I walk through the market, I notice that people are staring at me.
Some of them look curious, while others seem frightened by my appearance.
I try not to make eye contact, but it’s hard not to when everyone is looking at me like I’m some kind of alien.
I continue walking until I come across a woman who seems friendly enough.
She’s middle-aged with olive skin and graying hair, and she’s arranging fruits at her wooden stand.

She looks up as I approach her and gives me a small smile. "Kalimera," she says, using the formal Greek greeting for "good morning."
"Kalimera," I reply, trying my best to mimic her accent.
The woman looks surprised that I know any Greek at all, but she quickly recovers and asks me what she can help me with.
I take a deep breath and try to remember the basic phrases that I learned in school.
"Where am I?" is all I can manage to get out before my voice cracks from nervousness.
The woman looks at me with wide eyes, clearly taken aback by my strange accent and modern clothing.
"Ti einai afto?" she asks me, which means "What is this?"
I realize that she must think I’m some kind of foreigner who has wandered into her city by mistake.
I try to explain myself, but it’s difficult when we don’t speak the same language. "I’m sorry," I say, feeling embarrassed by my lack of knowledge.
"I don’t speak much Greek."
The woman nods understandingly and asks me where I am from.
I hesitate for a moment before answering truthfully.
"I’m from America," I say, hoping that she will understand what that means.
The woman looks confused for a moment before her face lights up with recognition.
"Oh!" she exclaims in English.
"You mean you are from the New World?"
I nod eagerly, relieved that she understands what I am talking about.
"Yes," I say excitedly.
"That’s right. The New World."
The woman leans in closer, her eyes narrowing with curiosity.

"Then you must be the one from the prophecy," she whispers, glancing around to ensure no one else is listening.
I blink in confusion, my heart racing. "Prophecy? What prophecy?"
The woman’s words hang in the air, leaving me stunned and speechless.
I stand there for a moment, staring at her as if she has just told me that I’m the queen of England.
I look around, wondering if anyone else heard what she said, but everyone seems to be going about their business as usual.
The woman watches me for a few moments before turning back to her fruit stand.
She starts arranging the figs again, her movements quick and efficient.
I can’t believe what she just said.
A prophecy?
What could she possibly mean by that?
I want to ask her more questions, but I don’t know where to start.
So instead, I pretend to examine the figs on display while trying to process what she said.
My Love for You Will Last Forever
The woman glances up at me occasionally, but she doesn’t say anything else.
I can tell that she is waiting for me to speak first. Finally, I take a deep breath and ask her what she meant by "the prophecy."
She looks up at me with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion in her eyes.
"You don’t know?" she asks me, her voice barely above a whisper.
I shake my head, feeling embarrassed that I have no idea what she is talking about.
"I’m sorry," I say softly.
"I don’t know anything about any prophecy."
The woman nods slowly, as if she expected this response from me.
"Well," she says quietly, "it’s not important right now. What matters is that you are here."
I nod in agreement, still trying to wrap my head around everything that has happened so far today.
I look around at the people passing by us on the street, wondering how many of them know about this prophecy that the woman mentioned. As I scan the crowd, I notice that several people are staring at me with wide eyes and open mouths.
Some of them whisper to each other while others point at me with their fingers.
I realize that they must be talking about my strange clothes and modern hairstyle. I turn back to the woman behind the fruit stand and ask her if there is anything else she can tell me about this prophecy.
She shakes her head and tells me that it’s not safe for us to talk about such things here in public.
Instead, she suggests that we go somewhere private where we can discuss it further without being overheard. I agree with her plan and follow her through the winding streets of ancient Greece until we reach a small tavern tucked away in a quiet alleyway.
My Love for You Will Last Forever
As we sit down at a corner table, she leans in and whispers, "The prophecy speaks of a traveler from another world who will bring change to our land."
I furrow my brow, trying to make sense of her words. "Change? What kind of change?"
She pauses, glancing around nervously before replying, "Some say it will be the end of an era; others believe it will usher in a new beginning."
