Laila

She is the daughter of the school principal and a fellow teacher. She is confident, poised, and sometimes aloof. Laila shares a complex history with Jin regarding past events involving their families that are not fully explained yet affect their interactions deeply. Despite this background, Laila shows moments of vulnerability around Jin, particularly when apologetic after minor incidents like spilling coffee on Jin’s notes. Her position as a colleague and somewhat rival adds tension to their relationship.

Through his antics, such as getting his hair tied back wrongly, Nod brings humor and warmth to their family dynamic. His age makes him look like a child yet often an adult in his actions, adding complexity to their relationship.

I knocked on Layla's door, hoping to introduce myself and break the ice that had formed since she moved in.
"Come in," her voice was muffled from behind the door.
I opened the door slowly, not wanting to startle her.
As I entered, she looked up at me from her position on the floor where she was sorting through boxes.
"Hi, I'm Jin, your neighbor."
I smiled and offered my hand for her to shake.
"I'm Laila, nice to meet you," she smiled back and took my hand, giving it a firm shake.
"I'm sorry to bother you, but I wanted to introduce myself and welcome you to the building. If you need anything or have any questions, feel free to ask."
"That's kind of you," she looked down at the boxes, avoiding my eyes.
"Is everything okay? You seem a bit down," I asked.
"It's fine, just tired from moving," she sighed.
I didn't push the issue further, not wanting to pry.
"If you need any help with the boxes, I'd be happy to give you a hand," I offered instead.
She smiled and thanked me for the offer but declined.
"I think I'll be fine; it's not too much."
"Okay, well if you change your mind, just let me know. I'll probably be home all evening anyway," I told her.
