I was never one to really talk shit about my wife having her girls’ nights out.
I always thought it was cute.
She got to go out with her friends, have a few drinks, and just be herself without me or the baby around.
I even thought it was good for her.
She needed that.
Being a new mom could be stressful, and having those nights to look forward to probably helped her keep her sanity.
That was all fine and dandy until myself and a few of the guys were over at my buddy’s house watching the game.
We were all drinking, and I made the mistake of saying, "Man, I wish my wife would just stay home one of these nights. I’m sure the other girls would be okay with that."
My husband friends all erupted into laughter, but one of them decided to take it a step further and make me eat my words.
"You know you can just join them, right?"
"Yeah right," I said sarcastically.
"Like they’d want anything to do with me."
"Well why not? You’re kind of one of the girls anyway," he said as he elbowed me in the ribs.
I rolled my eyes at him and took another swig of my beer before responding.
"Hey don’t get any ideas," I said with a smirk on my face.
"I’m one hundred percent straight and not about to change that."
But little did I know, my words were going to come back and bite me in the ass.
My Husband Is One of Us
I leaned back in the leather recliner and took another swig of my beer.
The guys were still talking about the game, but I suddenly felt dizzy and their voices sounded muffled and far away.
My vision began to blur, and the football players on the TV screen became a swirling mess of colors.
I gripped the armrests tightly, trying to steady myself as the room tilted sideways.
I blinked hard, trying to clear my vision, but it only seemed to get worse.
When I focused on the dark TV screen between plays, I saw something that made my heart skip a beat.
Instead of my own reflection staring back at me, I saw long hair framing a delicate face.
I blinked again, thinking it was just a trick of the light, but when I looked closer, I realized that it wasn’t my face at all.
It was a woman’s face, with full lips and high cheekbones.
I leaned forward in my chair, feeling like I was going to be sick.
My Husband Is One of Us
"Hey, man, are you okay?" Dave asked, noticing my sudden pallor.
I shook my head, trying to find the words. "I... I think I'm seeing things," I stammered, pointing at the TV.
Dave frowned, glancing at the screen before looking back at me. "Dude, that's not just the beer talking; something's seriously off."
Panicking, I stumbled to my feet and staggered towards the bathroom.
My legs felt unsteady beneath me, and I almost tripped over my own feet.
I caught myself on the doorframe and pushed my way inside, slamming the door shut behind me.
The fluorescent light overhead flickered to life, illuminating the small space.
I stumbled towards the mirror, my heart racing in my chest.
When I looked at my reflection, I gasped in shock.
Gone was my rugged jawline and buzz cut.
Instead, I saw a delicate face with full lips and long auburn hair cascading down my back.
My hands trembled as I reached out to touch my face.
It was soft and smooth, with no hint of stubble or roughness.
My Husband Is One of Us
I looked down at my body and saw that it had changed too.
My broad shoulders and muscular arms were replaced by slender limbs and curves that seemed to go on forever.
I turned sideways, marveling at the way my hips flared out from a narrow waist.
I couldn't believe what was happening to me. There was a knock on the door, followed by Dave's muffled voice.
"Hey, man, are you okay in there?"
I hesitated for a moment before answering.
My voice sounded higher and softer than before, almost feminine.
"Yeah... yeah, I'm fine," I stammered, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Are you sure? You've been in there for a while."
"I need to go," I said, gathering myself together.
I smoothed down my hair and straightened out my clothes, which now felt loose and baggy on my new body.
When I opened the door, Dave looked at me with concern etched on his face.
"Dude, you look like you've seen a ghost. What happened in there?"
"I... I don't know," I admitted, feeling dazed and disoriented.
"I think something's wrong with me."
He frowned deeper. "Well, you look fine to me. Maybe you should sit down for a minute."
"No," I said firmly, shaking my head. "I need to get out of here."
Without waiting for his response, I pushed past him and made my way towards the front door.
The cool night air hit me like a slap in the face as soon as I stepped outside.
I took a deep breath, trying to clear my head. My phone buzzed in my pocket, pulling me back to reality.
My Husband Is One of Us
I pulled it out and saw a text from my wife: "Hey, hope you're having fun! Just wanted to let you know I'm heading home early."
My heart skipped a beat as I stared at the message. "Dave, I need you to drive me home," I said urgently, my voice trembling with an unfamiliar edge.
He looked at me, confused but concerned. "Alright, man, let's get you home," he agreed, grabbing his keys without another word.
