I am Jin Sato, a normal teenager with average grades and a handsome face.
I don't say I am handsome but girls in school seems to think so. Even tho they say I am too kind and dense sometimes and that my ego is quite big.
Anyway, I was walking home from school when I saw him.
He was standing there, looking at me, like he wanted something from me.
I didn't think much of it and greeted him with a "Hello."
He answered with a low "Hello" and asked me if I wanted to go to a cafe with him to talk.
I thought it was okay, so I agreed.
When we got into the cafe, he asked me where I wanted to sit.
I pointed to a table near the window and said, "There."
He nodded and led me there.
When we sat down, he asked me, "What do you want to drink?"
I thought for a moment and said, "Anything is okay."
He nodded and went to the counter to order.
After he ordered our drinks, he sat back down and started talking to me.
My Destiny Mate
While he talked about school and hobbies, although i don't know why he tell me all that, we are strangers after all, i noticed something on his wrist.
Whenever his sleeve moved, I could see something there.
It looked like a tattoo, but it was glowing faintly blue.
I tried not to stare, but my eyes kept going back to it.
When he reached for his coffee cup, his sleeve pulled back completely, and I saw the whole thing.
It was a spiral pattern that seemed to pulse with energy.
I forgot about my own drink as I stared at it.
The sight made me forget everything else around me.
I couldn't process what I was seeing.
Finally, I couldn't contain my curiosity anymore and pointed directly at his wrist.
My Destiny Mate
"What's that on your wrist?" I asked, unable to hide my intrigue.
He glanced down at it and then back at me, his eyes serious. "Sorry, it's secret. I can't tell you."
I blinked, confused. A secret? Well I better don't ask, I just meet that man after all.
I shift my gaze from his mysterious tattoo back to his face, trying to act casual despite my burning curiosity.
The afternoon sun streaming through the cafe window highlights his sharp features, making him look even more striking.
My untouched coffee sits between us, growing cold.
"I didn't catch your name earlier," I say, attempting to steer the conversation to safer ground.
He hesitates for a moment, his fingers drumming against his cup as if debating something internally.
My Destiny Mate
"Call me Kai," he finally replies, his voice steady but laced with an unspoken weight.
I take another sip of my now-cold coffee, grimacing slightly at the bitter taste.
The awkward silence stretches between us as Kai watches me intently, his fingers still drumming against his cup.
My stomach growls softly, reminding me I haven't eaten since lunch.
I wave over the waitress and point to the display case where several desserts sit on rotating platforms.
"One slice of chocolate cake, please."
My Destiny Mate
The waitress nods and hurries off.
While eating my cake, I notice Kai's eyes never leave me.
I try to ignore the intensity of his gaze, focusing on the rich chocolate flavor melting in my mouth.
Suddenly, a waitress hurries past our table, her tray loaded with drinks.
In her haste, she accidentally bumps Kai's chair with her hip.
He doesn't flinch, but his face darkens into a scowl that makes the waitress flinch away.
She mumbles an apology and quickly disappears into the kitchen.
A few minutes later, another customer approaches our table hesitantly.
"Excuse me," he says politely, "could you please move your chair? It's blocking the aisle."
Kai doesn't respond, his eyes still fixed on me as if the man isn't there.
The customer clears his throat and tries again.
My Destiny Mate
"Sir, could you please—"
Kai raises a hand, silencing him without a word.
The man's face pales slightly before he retreats back to his own table. I watch this exchange with growing unease.
The cafe's warm atmosphere feels suffocating now.
I notice how other customers give our table a wide berth, picking up on Kai's intimidating aura.
My Destiny Mate
My hands shake slightly as I set down my fork.
"I should probably get going," I mutter, pushing my chair back and standing up abruptly.
I grab my school bag and sling it over my shoulder, my heart pounding in my chest.
Before I can take a step away from the table, Kai's hand shoots out and grabs my wrist in an iron grip.
The touch sends a jolt of electricity up my arm.
Other customers glance our way, then quickly look elsewhere.
My Destiny Mate
Kai keeps his head down, his shoulders rigid, still gripping my wrist tightly as seconds tick by in uncomfortable silence.
"...I can't accept this, but..." Kai murmurs, his voice barely above a whisper, yet i hear it. He can't accept something?
I look down at his hand on my wrist, then back up at him, confused by the mix of fear and desperation in his eyes.
"You need to know why I'm here," he continues, releasing my wrist but holding my gaze with an intensity that roots me to the spot.
I lower myself back into the chair, rubbing my tingling wrist where he grabbed me.
The cafe has emptied out except for a nervous waitress who keeps glancing our way.
Kai's shoulders slump as he traces the rim of his coffee cup, avoiding my eyes now.
"I didn't want this," he mutters, I still don't understand what is he talking about. Is he okay?
"Being drawn to you like this...I didn't want it, but it seems you are the one I am looking for."
His fingers clench around the cup until his knuckles turn white.
When he finally looks up, there's a mix of anger and unacceptance in his expression that makes my stomach twist.
My Destiny Mate
I watch him struggle to find the words, his jaw clenching and unclenching as he stares at his coffee cup.
Finally, he takes a deep breath and starts speaking in a low, controlled voice.
"I'm not human," he says, each word sounding like it's being dragged out of him against his will.
"I'm actually a Beyblade."
I almost laugh, thinking it's some kind of twisted joke, but the serious look in his eyes stops me cold.
He pauses, studying me intently.
"That strange tingling you felt when I grabbed your wrist...it means you're my destined owner."
I sit there frozen as his words sink in.
He's a Beyblade, and I'm his destined owner?
The last few customers in the cafe glance our way, then quickly look away, sensing the tension at our table.
Kai's eyes never leave mine, his expression a mix of anger and longing.
I can't process what he's just said.
My mind races with questions.
How can he be a Beyblade?
What does it mean to be someone's "destined owner"?
Kai shifts uncomfortably in his chair, his fingers tapping against the table as he watches me closely, waiting for my reaction.
My Destiny Mate
I open my mouth to ask a question, but nothing comes out.
My mind feels like it's spinning out of control.
"I know this is hard to accept," Kai says finally, breaking the silence.
"But it's true. And we can be owned only by our partners, so most of us remain hidden until we find our partner." "Partner?"
I repeat, my voice barely above a whisper.
He nods.
"The one we're destined to be with. Once we find them, we take on human form and stay by their side forever."
I stare at him, trying to wrap my head around what he's saying.
"So...you're saying that you're my partner?"
He nods again, his eyes locked on mine.
"I'm sorry," he says, his voice filled with regret.
"I didn't want this to happen. I wanted to stay hidden forever."
I feel like I've been punched in the gut.
I don't know what to say or how to react.
Kai's eyes soften slightly, and he leans forward, his voice urgent.
My Destiny Mate
"But now that you know, we have to decide what to do next. You can choose to accept this bond or walk away, but either way, things won't be the same."
I swallow hard, my mind spinning with the weight of his words.
My hands grip the edge of the table as I try to process everything he's just said.
The empty chairs and dim evening light streaming through the windows make everything feel surreal.
After several long seconds of silence, I slowly lift my head and meet his anxious gaze.
"Okay," I say, my voice barely above a whisper.
"I'll try this."
Kai's shoulders relax slightly, but his jaw remains tense.
He reaches across the table, palm up, offering his hand.
The blue tattoo pulses brighter as I hesitate for a moment, then carefully place my hand in his.
Kai's grip is firm but gentle, and I feel a strange warmth spreading through my fingertips.
"Thank you," he murmurs, his eyes softening as if a weight has been lifted from his shoulders.
My Destiny Mate
"But remember, this path won't be easy, and there are others who might not want us to succeed."
I glancing at my phone to see the hour. It was late and my parents will probably get worried if I don't go home soon. I stand up and walk to the counter.
Kai follows me to the counter, where I pay the bill, Kai didn't say anything, wow, this guy is not even trying to be polite.
Outside, the setting sun casts long shadows across the sidewalk as we walk in awkward silence toward my house.
Finally, I break the silence.
"So...how does this work?"
I ask, trying to keep my voice steady.
Kai glances at me, his expression serious.
"You mean how do we battle?"
I nod, feeling a little foolish for not knowing much about Beyblade battles.
He sighs and explains the basics of how Beyblade battles work, keeping a careful distance between us as we walk.
My Destiny Mate
His voice is professional and detached, but I can still sense the tension beneath his words.
When we reach my street, he stops and looks at me intently.
Under the streetlight, he shifts uncomfortably before speaking.
"I know this is a lot to take in, but I have one more thing to ask."
I nod, curious about what he's going to say next.
He clears his throat and continues in a formal tone.
"I was wondering if I could live with you."
My eyes widen in surprise.
"Live with me?"
He nods, his expression serious.
"Yes. As your partner, it's my duty to stay by your side at all times, and it would be easier for us to train and prepare for battles if we were living together."
I step back, trying to process the implications of having him around all the time.
My Destiny Mate
It's not like I can just turn him down after everything he's told me, but the thought of having him constantly in my space is overwhelming.
Before I can respond, he quickly adds, "But don't worry, I can transform into my Beyblade form whenever you want some space. That way, you won't have to feel like I'm always there."
I hesitate, unsure of what to say.
"It would mean a lot to me if you would let me stay with you." I look at him, feeling torn between my desire for independence and my responsibility as his partner.
Finally, I nod slowly.
"Okay," I say quietly.
"But just until we figure out what's going on with these battles and stuff."
"Thank you," he says, his voice filled with gratitude.
"And don't worry, I'll make sure to give you plenty of space when you need it."
I smile weakly, hoping that he's telling the truth.
"So...how do you transform into your Beyblade form?"
I ask curiously.
Kai grins mischievously and holds out his hand.
"Watch this," he says confidently.
Before I can react, his body begins to glow with a bright blue light that envelops him completely.
The light grows brighter and brighter until it's almost blinding, and then suddenly it disappears as quickly as it appeared. When my vision clears, I see that Kai is no longer standing in front of me.
Instead, there's a spinning Beyblade on the sidewalk where he once stood.
My Destiny Mate
I blink in astonishment, trying to wrap my head around what just happened.
"See?" Kai's voice echoes from the Beyblade, sounding both proud and a little playful.
"Now you know I wasn't kidding about any of this."
