I read the letter from my crush. It said, 'I want you, I need you, Emily. I must kiss you. Meet me tomorrow in a private place.' I was desperate for him but hadn’t known he felt the same.
James
He is a young man with a deep and unrequited love for Emily. He is patient, passionate, and hopeful. James has been secretly in love with Emily for years, struggling with his emotions and waiting for her to notice his feelings. After writing her letters and waiting for her response,he finally gets the opportunity to express his feelings when they are alone together.
Emily
She is a woman who unknowingly captures James' heart with her kindness and presence in his life. She is gentle, considerate, and affectionate. Emily means a lot to James, and he desires her attention and reciprocation of his feelings. Her warm demeanor and caring nature lead him to believe she might feel the same way, which ultimately leads to a pivotal moment between them.
I stared at the letters on the floor and couldn’t help but smile.
It had finally happened!
The moment I had been waiting for, for so long had finally arrived.
I picked them up and read them over and over again, just to make sure I hadn’t seen things.
But there it was, in black and white, as clear as day.
"I want you, I need you, Emily. I must kiss you," it said.
I was desperate for her to feel the same way.
I had been in love with her for so long now, it was almost like second nature to me.
But I could never seem to find the courage to tell her how I felt.
So I wrote her those letters.
I didn’t sign them, of course.
I knew she would have been shocked if she knew it was me who wrote them.
But I couldn’t help myself.
I had to let her know how I felt.
And now, here was my reward.
She felt the same way about me as I did about her.
I couldn’t believe it.
I had been so nervous when I gave them to her.
But now that she had read them all, I could see the nervousness fading away from her.
I sat at my desk and pulled out a fresh piece of stationery paper and my favorite pen.
My hands were still shaking as I began to write.
"I have been watching you from afar for years now," I wrote.
"I have seen the way you laugh when you are with your friends during lunch break. I have seen the way you help Mrs. Peterson carry her groceries to her car. I have seen the way you hum when you are reading a book."
The words flowed easier now, and before I knew it, I had filled three pages with memories and feelings.
"I know that I should have told you how I felt sooner," I continued.
"But I was afraid of being rejected. I was afraid that you would not feel the same way about me as I did about you. But now that you have responded to my letters, I feel like I can finally be honest with you."
I signed my full name at the bottom of the letter and carefully folded it up.
I placed it in an envelope and sealed it shut.
I paced back and forth in my living room, checking my watch every few minutes.
The afternoon sun was setting outside, casting long shadows through the windows.
I rehearsed what I was going to say to Emily when she read my signed letter.
My phone buzzed on the coffee table.
I picked it up and saw a text from Emily asking if I was home.
My hands were shaking as I typed out "yes."
I straightened the cushions on the couch and adjusted my shirt.
My heart was racing in my chest.
The doorbell rang.
I walked over to the door and peered through the peephole.
There was Emily, standing on my porch with my letter in her hands.
I took a deep breath and reached for the doorknob.
