Scenario:My brother's best friend is Gabe, and Gabe is really hot, but the thing is, we don’t get along, so I simply never talk to him. Simple, right? No! It's so fucking hard to stay away from him! For one, he's in EVERY SINGLE CLASS with me at school, and he's always with my brother, and they're always at the house playing video games. Another thing that annoys me is when he talks in that deep, tired, HOT ASS voice. God, I hate him; God, I hate how heat pools down there when he talks to me in that tired voice, and all he says is “mmm” and “mhmm.”
One Saturday, I had plans to go to the pool and hang out with my friends. Thank god I wouldn’t have to be around Gabe.
But there was a problem: I couldn’t find my hair tie, and at the pool, I didn’t want to get my hair wet, so I wanted my hair tie. I asked my brother, and he said that Gabe was last seen with it.
I rolled my eyes and went to find him. Did this motherfucker dare touch my stuff?
Then I saw him in the kitchen making a snack, and I saw my hair tie on his wrist… that means one thing…

Scarlett Harlow
high school student, attracted to Gabe, younger sister of Alex, long brown hair, green eyes, determined and conflicted.
Alex Harlow
high school student and brother of Scarlett Harlow, friends with Gabe since childhood, protective of his sister.
Gabe Weston
high school student and best friend of Alex Harlow, object of Scarlett's attraction, tall with dark hair and deep voice, laidback and unaware of Scarlett's feelings.
I had to get my keys out of my locker.
Walking down the hallway, I could feel everyone’s eyes on me.
It was like I was magnetic or something.
Just as I got to my locker, someone spun me around and against the lockers.
I looked up into the dark hair and deep voice of Gabe Weston.
High school student and best friend of Alex Harlow…aka my brother.
Gabe didn’t know it, but he was also the object of my attraction for the past three years.
"Hey beautiful."
He smiled that crooked smile of his and I felt my heart flutter in my chest.
If only he knew how much power he had over me.
"Hey," I said, trying to sound nonchalant.
As I said this, I noticed how close we were and how my breath was going uneven.
I tried to take a deep breath, but it felt like I was suffocating.
I looked up into his eyes and felt like I was drowning in them.
Gabe seemed to notice my unease because he took a step back.
"Are you going to the party tonight?" he asked.
I shook my head no; not because I didn’t want to go, but because I just couldn’t let him see me in any light other than as Alex’s little sister.
This was going to be my last year of high school and I wanted to do it right.
I looked down at the floor tiles, counting the specks in the linoleum.
I could feel Gabe’s eyes on me, so I kept my gaze on the floor.
My face was burning hot and I knew I was turning bright red.
I could feel his eyes on me like a touch.
He leaned in closer to me and braced his arm against the locker beside my head.
The metal felt cool against my back through my thin t-shirt.
He smelled like cologne - something woodsy and expensive.
A group of students walked by, their chatter echoing in the hallway.
I shifted my weight, accidentally bumping my shoulder into his chest.
He didn’t move away from me, but instead, his free hand came up to tuck a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
I felt a shiver run down my spine as his fingers brushed against the side of my neck.
He leaned in closer, his mouth inches from my ear.
His warm breath tickled the skin of my neck and I could feel my knees becoming weak.
"Scarlett," he said softly.
The sound of my name in his deep, tired voice sent a rush through my body.
My knees felt like they were made of jelly and I thought for sure I was going to fall over.
He smelled so good and he looked even better.
His hair was dark brown, almost black and his eyes were a deep shade of brown, almost like chocolate.
His lips were plump and inviting.
He was tall and lean, but not too thin with muscles that showed through his clothing.
He was just overall gorgeous.
"Scarlett," he said again, this time a little louder.
I looked up at him and met his eyes with mine.
His hand was still tangled in my hair and he seemed to be studying me intensely.
I tried to look away, but I couldn’t tear myself away from those deep brown eyes. He leaned in closer and I could feel his hot breath on my cheek, sending shivers down my body.
His hand moved to the nape of my neck and I could feel him pulling me towards him.
I knew this wasn’t right, but I couldn’t seem to make myself move away from him.
Just as I thought he was going to kiss me, the bell rang signaling the end of the period.
Gabe let out a frustrated sigh before pulling away from me abruptly.
He looked down at me with those brown eyes and then turned around to walk away without another word.
I stood there staring after him for a minute before finally coming out of the trance-like state that I was in.
I shook my head before opening my locker and grabbing what I needed for my next class. The first day of school had finally arrived and Scarlett had spent hours getting ready for her first day back at school after summer break.
She put on her new jeans along with her white crop top and her favorite pair of black stiletto heels.
She did her makeup perfectly and styled her blonde hair into loose waves down her back before she grabbed her purse and headed out the door to meet her friends at school early for breakfast before their first day back at school started.
Scarlett’s brother Alex was sitting on the couch playing video games with Gabe when Scarlett came out of her bedroom ready to go for school.
"Scarlett," Gabe called after her, his voice a mix of urgency and something else she couldn't quite place.
She paused, turning back to face him, her heart pounding in her chest.
"There's something I need to tell you before it's too late," he said, his eyes searching hers for understanding.
