In a world where men can get pregnant, Press is a 18 year old girl from New Zealand and is very, very popular in school. Press is dating her nerdy preppy boyfriend jax who is currently ten weeks pregnant with their baby
Press
She is an 18yearold high school senior in New Zealand. She is outspoken, rebellious, and protective. Press is known for her popularity and has a tumultuous relationship with Jax, her preppy boyfriend. Despite their social differences, Press deeply cares for Jax and supports her through a pregnancy crisis. Her close friendship with Zeke and her passion for music are integral to her identity. Press struggles with family issues, particularly her mother's addiction and estranged relationship with her father.
Jax
He is Press's 19yearold boyfriend and a student at Auckland University. He is nerdy, caring, and considerate. Jax shares a deep bond with Press and supports her unconditionally, even standing by her during a challenging pregnancy. His unconventional appearance contrasts with Press's typical popularity, yet their shared passion leads to a strong connection. Jax's dedication to Press is evident in his willingness to adjust his lifestyle for their relationship, showcasing his commitment and depth as an individual.
Unnamed Father
He is the father of Press's baby and Jax's biological father. His actions are indirectly responsible for Press’s situation as he abandoned his family when he was young, mirroring the challenge Press faces in her own relationship with Jax’s father. The unnamed father remains a background figure, symbolizing the unresolved past actions that impact the present for Press and Jax.
I am 18 years old, from New Zealand, and I am very, very popular in school.
My boyfriend is Jax, an extremely nerdy preppy who used to be my best friend Zeke's tutor.
Yes, you read that right—my boyfriend is pregnant.
Not only is Jax my boyfriend, but he’s also carrying my baby.
It’s been three months since we started dating, and he’s ten weeks pregnant.
How did all this happen?
Well, let me tell you—it’s a pretty funny story.
I guess you could say it all started about a year ago when my best friend, Zeke, got a tutor.
Zeke is the son of one of New Zealand’s most famous politicians, and he and I have been best friends since primary school.
He’s always been popular, just like me.
During art class, I notice Jax fidgeting more than usual at his easel.
His paintbrush taps against the canvas, but he doesn’t make any marks.
He keeps glancing at me over his shoulder, and I can tell he’s trying to get my attention.
Finally, he tears a corner off his sketchbook, scribbles something quickly, and folds the paper twice.
He passes it to Kelly behind him.
Kelly rolls her eyes but takes the note and passes it to me.
I open it and read Jax’s neat handwriting.
"I’m having a craving," he writes.
"I don’t know what I want, but I need you to figure it out."
I turn the note over and start writing down a list of possible foods while Mrs. Henderson drones on about color theory.
"Jax, this isn't just about food, is it?" I whisper, leaning closer to him.
He hesitates, then nods slightly. "I think... I think I'm scared about what comes next."
"Scared?" I ask softly, my heart pounding. "What do you mean?"
I watch Jax fidget through the rest of art class, his canvas remaining blank while mine fills with distracted doodles of baby items.
When the bell rings, we hang back until the room empties.
I pull my chair next to his easel, our knees touching as we talk in hushed voices.
"We need to make a plan," I say, trying to sound calm.
"Doctor appointments, telling your parents..."
Jax's eyes widen and he grabs my arm.
"Oh," he says, interrupting his own worried rambling about morning sickness.
"I'm craving apples. Really, really badly."
I smile, relieved that I can fulfill such a simple request.
"But Jax," I say gently, "what about the other stuff? The big stuff?"
He takes a deep breath, looking down at his hands. "I know, I know... but maybe starting with apples is a good first step."
"Okay," I nod, squeezing his hand reassuringly. "We'll figure it out together, one step at a time."
