Mohamed Abdi
He is a talented young rapper from a wealthy family in New York City. He is cocky, disrespectful, and selfabsorbed. Mohamed often flaunts his wealth and fame, indulging in women and lavish lifestyles. He is close to his family, particularly his father, Abdinur, and mother, Layla. Despite his parents' troubled pasts, he enjoys the privilege and attention he receives. Mohamed is determined to succeed in music, driven by ego and talent.
Abdinur Abdi
He is the founder of Empire Entertainment, a multimillion dollar music company. He is arrogant, ruthless, and authoritative. Abdinur was once a famous rapper himself and remains influential in the industry. He prioritizes power and maintains control over his empire. He is married to Munira's friend, Anika Calhoun, and values family loyalty. Despite his wealthy lifestyle, Abdinur's past includes connections to crime, as evidenced by his parents' imprisonment for drug trafficking.
Layla Abdi
She is Mohamed's mother and a former drug dealer. She is rebellious, cunning, and protective. Layla took the blame for Abdinur's crimes to secure a future for her children. She is currently in prison but remains connected to her family's affairs. Her volatile personality often leads to conflicts, especially with Munira. Despite her circumstances, Laylah remains deeply involved in the family business and her children's lives.
I am Mohamed Abdi.
I am 18 years old.
I live in New York City, one of the greatest places on earth.
I am a very talented rapper, I have been rapping since I was 15 years old.
I am from a very wealthy family, my dad owns a multi-million dollar music company called Empire Entertainment.
My dad used to be a famous rapper himself back in the day, he was known as Abdinur Abdi.
He is now 42 years old and he retired from rapping when I was born.
My mom used to be a drug dealer, she took the fall for my dad so that he could have a better life and raise me and my siblings.
She is currently in prison, but she still runs the empire from behind bars.
I have two siblings, my sister Munira Abdi, she is 20 years old and she is also a rapper and a singer, she works with Empire Entertainment on marketing and operations for the label.
She is a lesbian and has no shame in saying it out loud.
My other sibling is my brother Mahad Abdi, he is 22 years old and he works for Empire as well, he is the CFO for the label.
We are currently in the studio and Munira is recording her debut single.
It's called "Love Me Now" and it's a very emotional song, I am so proud of my sister.
My dad is sitting next to me as we listen to Munira record her song.
The door opens and my manager Anika walks in, she is also Munira's manager.
"Hello everyone," she says, walking over to my dad and me.
She is wearing a black dress that hugs her body perfectly and she has on red heels.
She has her hair up in a ponytail and she looks absolutely stunning.
"Hi Anika," my dad greets her, he has known her for years and she is like family to us.
"Hey Abdinur," she greets him back, she sits down next to us.
"So what do you think of the song so far?" she asks him, referring to Munira's song.
"I think it's great, it will be a hit for sure," he tells her. "I agree, but I was thinking we could release Munira's single separately from Mohamed's," Anika suggests, referring to my single.
"Why would you do that?"
My dad asks her, he looks confused by what she just said.
"Well, I think if we release both singles at the same time then one might overshadow the other," she explains herself.
"But Mohamed's single is ready to go, it's been ready for a while now," my dad says, looking at me as he says this.
"Yes, but Munira's single is almost ready too and I think it would be best if we release them separately," Anika tells him.
"Okay, let me think about it," my dad says and Anika nods in understanding.
I look over at Munira who is still recording her song, she has no idea what we are talking about. My dad looks over at Munira as well; he looks like he is thinking about what Anika said.
I look back at Anika and our eyes meet; she stares at me with a blank expression on her face like she is challenging me to say something.
I get up from my seat and walk over to Munira who has just finished recording her song.
I walk into the recording booth and she turns to look at me, I can still feel Anika's eyes on my back as I walk in.
The soundproof glass door slides open with a soft hiss.
Munira removes her headphones and her dark curls fall loose around her shoulders as she gathers her sheet music.
"That was fire," I tell her, leaning against the microphone stand.
She smiles, but I can see that she is tense from the release date drama.
I look out of the window of the booth and my dad and Anika are still talking about the release date.
I pull my phone out of my pocket and scroll through my contacts, looking for the number of one of my favorite restaurants.
"Let's do dinner tonight," I say to Munira.
"Sure, but what's going on out there?" Munira asks, nodding towards our dad and Anika.
"Anika thinks we should release our singles separately," I reply, trying to keep my voice steady.
Munira frowns, her eyes narrowing. "Why? We always planned to drop them together."
