I was eating my breakfast and staring at the paper when the waiter came over and handed me a note.
"From the young lady in compartment No. 7," he said.
I opened it up and read:
"Please come to my compartment. I need your help on a matter of life and death.
Sincerely, Countess Andrenyi."
Well, that's a bit dramatic, isn't it?
Still, I was glad of an excuse to get out of my compartment.
There wasn't much I could do in there.
The case was winding down and I would have to leave soon.
So I got up and went to compartment No. 7.
When I got there, the Countess greeted me warmly.
She was a small, thin aristocrat with sharp features and a nose that twitched when she smiled.
"I say, thank you for coming," she said.
