Mission To Cannibals

Jonas pregou novamente, e o Espírito Santo desceu naquela aldeia. Corações duros se quebraram. Canibais se tornaram irmãos. Hoje, toda a tribo louva ao Senhor e enviam missionários a outras tribos! "Como ouvirão, se não há quem pregue?" (Romanos 10:14) Missões salvam almas. Missões mudam destinos. Missões são o coração de Deus.

Jonas

He is a missionary called by God to preach the Gospel to every creature. He is brave, devoted, and selfless. He and his wife Raquel left everything to obey God's command, facing perilous journeys and hostile tribes. Despite cannibalistic threats, Jonas trusted God's plan and vision. When Raquel was captured, he prayed fervently for her release. When the chief of the tribe had a vision of Jonas as a messenger from God, Jonas and Raquel successfully preached to the tribe, leading to their conversion.

Chief of the Tribe

He is the leader of a cannibalistic tribe in Central Africa. He is authoritative, skeptical, and openminded. In the past, his people had sacrificed foreigners, including missionaries. However, he had a vision one night, featuring a man in white telling his people that Jonas and Raquel were sent by God. This vision changed his perspective and ultimately led to the tribe's acceptance of the missionary couple. His willingness to listen transformed the tribe's attitude toward outsiders.

Raquel

She is Jonas's wife and fellow missionary. She is courageous, faithful, and resilient. Like Jonas, she answered God's call to mission work in Central Africa despite the dangers. When captured by the tribe, she endured the risk of sacrifice. Her freedom came through a miraculous intervention by God, who revealed her and Jonas as His messengers. Together with Jonas, she faced challenges and obstacles courageously, maintaining trust in God's purpose even in the face of overwhelming fear.

One day, God spoke to my heart and to the heart of my wife Raquel.
He told us to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.
So we did.
We were sent as missionaries to Central Africa, to a tribe that was known for being cannibals and for killing foreigners on sight.
When we arrived there, they threatened us with death.
They pointed their spears at us and told us to leave or die.
We did not leave.
We slept on the ground, we fasted, we wept... but we did not give up.
"For whoever loses his life for My sake and the Gospel’s will save it," Jesus said in Mark 8:35.
After some days, they took my wife to be sacrificed to their gods.
I knelt down on my knees and cried out to the heavens.
"Lord, save my wife! Save this tribe! Use us as Your instruments!"
That night, the chief of the tribe had a dream.
In his dream, he saw a man dressed in white who told him not to kill us because we were sent by Him.
The next morning, Raquel was set free.
I preached again.
The Holy Spirit came upon that village and hardened hearts were broken.
Cannibals became brothers, and today they praise the Lord and send missionaries to other tribes.
"How will they hear if no one preaches?" (Romans 10:14)

Missions change destinies!

I stumble into our makeshift tent, my legs weak from the day’s events.
The dirt floor feels cool against my knees as I collapse.
Through the tent’s opening, I watch Raquel speaking with the women of the tribe, her hands gesturing as she shares her testimony.
She’s alive, free, and untouched.
Tears stream down my face as I remember her capture, the spears, the ropes, the terror in her eyes.
"Thank you, Father," I whisper, pressing my forehead to the ground.
My fingers dig into the earth as wave after wave of relief washes over me.
Raquel enters the tent, her eyes shining with a mixture of exhaustion and joy.
"They listened, they really listened," she says, her voice trembling with disbelief.
I look up at her, wiping my tears, and ask, "What did the chief say after his dream?"

She sits beside me on the pile of leaves that serves as our bed, her hands moving animatedly as she recounts her conversation with the chief.
"He came to me after the women had gathered around. He spoke through gestures and broken Portuguese, but I understood him."
She pauses, taking a deep breath.
"He said they want us to stay in the village, to teach them more about the God we serve."
She points to her chest and then to the sky.
"He said something about his heart and the spirits in the sky. I think he wants us to help them understand their place in this world."
I nod, feeling a surge of purpose.
"So, we start tomorrow," I say, my voice filled with determination.
We spend the next few hours organizing our belongings, creating a small teaching area near our tent.
We gather a few logs and some fallen branches to create a makeshift bench for those who will come to listen.

As night falls, Raquel and I sit on our bed of leaves, surrounded by the sounds of the forest.
I pull out our worn Bible, its pages dog-eared from countless readings.
I mark passages with a piece of twig, planning for tomorrow’s sermon.
I wake before the first light of sunrise, my hands trembling with anticipation as I arrange dry twigs and leaves in a small circle of stones.
Raquel sleeps soundly behind me in the tent, her breathing steady.
I strike a match three times before it catches, shielding the tiny flame from the morning breeze.
The fire grows steadily, and I position myself on a fallen log, spreading our marked Bible across my knees.
The eastern sky lightens from black to deep purple, and I hear the first stirrings from the village - quiet footsteps, hushed voices, the cry of a baby.
