Finley
He is a sea turtle who becomes Alex's unlikely ally. He is wise, gentle, and humorous. Finley finds Alex in the ocean after a shipwreck and decides to help him navigate through the water. He teaches Alex how to swim efficiently and introduces him to mermaids. Finley provides comic relief and practical advice, supporting Alex's journey to regain his human form and find his way back to Luna.
Luna
She is a mermaid who discovers Alex's presence in the ocean. She is protective, curious, and empathetic. Luna initially fears Alex due to his mysterious aura, but she gradually grows attached to him. She helps him learn to control his powers and communicates with humans. Luna shares her knowledge of the ocean and her world with Alex. Her relationship with him evolves from distrust to friendship and eventually love, helping him find his way back to land.

But I ignore them and keep swimming deeper into the colder waters.
I’m getting close.
I can feel it in my bones.
And then I see them… distinctive paw prints in the sand near the seafloor.
Leading toward a hidden cave entrance.
The cave entrance looms before me, a jagged mouth in the reef wall.
Bioluminescent algae cast an eerie blue glow across the sand, illuminating the fresh paw prints that lead inside.
I hesitate at the threshold, my tail fins brushing against the sharp coral.
The current is stronger here, pushing against my scales as I propel myself forward.
The water grows colder with each stroke.
I follow the trail of disturbed sand deeper into the tunnel.
The cave narrows until I have to twist sideways to squeeze through.
My webbed hands scrape against the rough rock walls as I push myself forward through the darkness.
"Why did you come back?" I ask, my voice trembling as it echoes off the cave walls.
"I never left," he replies, his voice a soft rumble that vibrates through the water.
"The curse binds me here, but your love is the only thing that can break it."
