I was once a hitman for a triad leader, doing his dirty work and killing anyone who stood in his way.
I was the best, and everyone feared me.
I was invincible… until I was shot and left for dead.
My life changed when I miraculously survived and sought redemption for my past mistakes.
I became a debt collector for a triad, seeking to right the wrongs of my former life.
Now, I am tasked with collecting debts from a man who has been gambling away all his money.
Little does he know, his debts will be paid in flesh, and his life will never be the same.
As I approach the man’s house, I notice a woman tending to the garden.
Unbeknownst to her, her life is about to take a drastic turn.
She will soon find herself caught in the middle of a deadly game, and her fate will be sealed forever.
I watch her for a moment, taking in her innocence and kindness.
She has no idea what horrors are coming her way, and I am powerless to stop it.
All I can do is sit back and watch as her life crumbles before her eyes.
"Hello," the woman says, noticing me standing there.
"I’m Xiao Mei."
"Hi Xiao Mei, I’m here to see your husband. Is he home?"
She looks at me for a moment before nodding and gesturing for me to follow her.
I walk behind her as she leads me through the garden and into the house.
The garden is small but well-maintained, with a variety of flowers and plants.
But I notice that some of the flowers are starting to wither, indicating that they haven’t been watered in a while.
As we enter the house, I notice that it’s sparsely furnished.
There’s a coffee table in the center of the room, with several empty liquor bottles on top of it.
Xiao Mei gestures for me to sit on the couch, which is worn and faded.
I take a seat and watch as she heads into the kitchen to make tea.
A few moments later, she returns with two cups of steaming hot tea.
She hands one to me and sits down across from me, taking a sip of her own tea. "So, what brings you here today?" she asks, looking at me curiously.
I take a sip of my tea before responding.
"I’m here to see your husband," I repeat.
"He owes some money to my boss, and I need to collect it."
Xiao Mei nods, taking another sip of her tea.
"I see," she says.
"Well, he’s not home right now. He’s out running some errands."
I nod, setting my cup down on the coffee table.
"Okay," I say.
"I’ll wait for him then."
Xiao Mei nods again, setting her own cup down on the table.
"Sure," she says.
"Make yourself comfortable."
I nod and lean back against the couch, taking in my surroundings.
The house is small but cozy, with a warm atmosphere that makes me feel at ease.
I look over at Xiao Mei, who is sitting across from me with her hands folded in her lap. She looks nervous, fidgeting with her hands as she stares down at them.
I can tell that something is bothering her, but I don’t know what it is yet.
I decide to try and make small talk in order to put her at ease.
"So, how long have you lived here?" I ask her.
She looks up at me and smiles slightly before responding.
"About five years now," she says.
"We moved here after we got married."
"That’s nice," I say, nodding my head in response.
"It’s a beautiful place."
Xiao Mei nods in agreement before taking another sip of her tea.
I watch as her face tightens and her eyes flicker towards the front door.
Footsteps are coming from outside, heavy and unsteady.
Xiao Mei quickly gathers up the tea cups and places them on the tray, her hands shaking slightly as she does so.
She stands up and hurries over to the kitchen, setting the tray down on the counter before returning to sit beside me.
The floorboards creak under the weight of the footsteps, which are getting closer and closer.
I shift my position on the couch, angling myself so that I can see the entrance to the house while still keeping my right hand free in case I need it.
Through the thin curtains that cover the windows, I can see a man’s silhouette swaying back and forth on the front porch.
He looks like he’s been drinking heavily, judging by his unsteady movements. Xiao Mei whispers something under her breath before standing up again and walking over to the kitchen.
She opens one of the cabinets and pulls out a bottle of liquor, setting it down on the counter before returning to sit beside me.
I stay seated but tense up slightly as I hear the sound of keys jingling outside.
The man is trying to unlock the door, but he’s having trouble doing so due to his intoxicated state.
Finally, after several attempts, I hear the sound of the lock turning and then see the door open slowly.
