Think about the details the author use c to establish the setting and the characters write an original story about what happens when sally arrives at Aunt Sarah's house, in your story, be sure to use what you have learned about the setting and the characters as you tell what happens next.
Sally
curious, and a bit anxious. Sally experiences a mix of excitement and trepidation as she arrives at her aunt's house, which feels both familiar and strange at the same time. She is eager to spend Christmas with Sally Chipley, her cousin, despite feeling nervous about meeting new people. As she settles into her aunt's cozy home, Sally grapples with the unfamiliar surroundings and her own emotions.
Aunt Sarah
warm, and a bit busy. Aunt Sarah welcomes Sally with open arms and provides her with a comforting hug upon arrival. She is preparing for a large family gathering and seems slightly stressed about meeting time constraints for the meal. Despite the chaos, she ensures that everyone feels included and loved during the holiday season.
Grandma
engaging, and a bit demanding. Grandma arrives late due to a snowstorm and expresses relief about being indoors during such inclement weather. Her playful teasing with Aunt Sarah about the tardy arrival of Mr. Edward suggests a strong bond between them. Grandma focuses on ensuring everyone has a joyful Christmas despite any minor setbacks.
It was a cold winter morning, and I was excited to see the snowflakes falling from the sky.
I had just arrived at my Aunt Sarah's house in the countryside.
As I got out of the car, I could smell the smoke coming from the chimney of the house.
The fresh air and the sound of birds chirping made me feel happy and excited.
I had never been to my aunt's house before, but I had heard a lot about it.
My Aunt Sarah had invited me to spend Christmas with her and my cousin Sally Chipley.
I was a bit nervous, but I was looking forward to meeting all of them.
As I entered the house, I saw a woman with a kind smile on her face.
"Hello, Sally," she said as she hugged me.
"I'm Mrs. Chipley, your cousin's mother."
I smiled and greeted her as I took in the cozy atmosphere of the living room.
The walls were decorated with old paintings, and the furniture was antique.
There was a fireplace where a fire was burning, and it made the room feel warm and welcoming.
"Hello," I replied as I tried to hide my nervousness.
"It's nice to meet you, Mrs. Chipley."
"Please call me Mrs. Chipley," she said with a smile as she led me to the stairs.
"I'll show you your room."
I trail behind Mrs. Chipley as she ascends the creaking wooden staircase.
My fingers brush against the smooth, dark banister, tracing the carved vine patterns that wind their way up.
The stairs curve to the right, and family portraits line the wall - faces I don't recognize staring down at me.
Mrs. Chipley pauses at the landing, catching her breath.
She points out a particularly ornate section of the railing where the wood twists into delicate flowers.
A door slams somewhere above us, making me jump.
Mrs. Chipley chuckles softly and continues up, her hand gripping the banister.
"Don't worry about that, dear," she says, glancing back with a reassuring smile.
"Sally's just a bit... spirited, especially around this time of year."
I nod, trying to mask my curiosity, but Mrs. Chipley leans in and whispers, "There's something special about this Christmas—something Sally's been waiting to tell you."
Mrs. Chipley leads me into a dusty sitting room filled with antique furniture and heavy curtains.
While she fusses with arranging some old books on a shelf, I notice unusual scratches near the floral wallpaper.
Running my fingers along the wall's edge, I feel a slight depression.
Mrs. Chipley turns just as my touch triggers something - a section of the wall moves with a grinding sound.
Behind the newly revealed panel, yellowed paper catches my eye.
Mrs. Chipley gasps as I carefully pull out what appears to be an aged map, its edges crumbling.
"Sally found that last summer," Mrs. Chipley says, her voice tinged with excitement.
"She believes it leads to something hidden on the property, something our family has kept secret for generations."
I look at her, wide-eyed, and ask, "Do you think it's true?"
