I sat across from my wife in the corner of the small cafe, holding my cup of hot tea and smiling at her over the rim.
It was a cold October morning, and the cafe was warm and cozy, with a fire burning in the large stone fireplace.
The tables were small and round, and the chairs were comfortable, adding to the relaxed atmosphere of the place.
Emily and I came here often on weekend mornings after we dropped our 5 year old son off at his soccer practice.
It was a great way to spend some time together before we had to run him to his next activity, which was usually a bunch of birthday parties.
Being parents to a very active and popular kindergartener was tiring, but we both loved it.
It had been 3 months since our wedding day, and 5 years since Emily got pregnant with Lucas.
We had been together in high school, but back then it wasn't socially acceptable to be gay.
