I was born in 1990, in the city of Chicago.

My parents were immigrants from Poland and I was an only child until the age of 10.

That year my mom gave birth to my sister Emily.

I wasn't happy at the beginning because I had been an only child for so long that I didn't know how to share my mom's and dad's attention with a new baby.

My dad had an only sister and my mom had two brothers, so I had one aunt and two uncles.

My grandma Alina and grandpa Peter lived with us since I was born, which was common among Polish families.

They helped a lot with raising me and later with baby-sitting my sister.

I grew up in a bi-lingual family, everybody spoke Polish at home, but my sister and I only spoke English to each other.
