I'm falling for my two best friends
I was in love with my best friend.
No, not that one.
The other one.
No, not that one either.
I was in love with both of them.
And I was pretty sure they were in love with me too.
But I had no idea what to do about it.
"Emily, are you listening to me?"
Sarah asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I looked up from the menu and saw her giving me a knowing look.
"What? Of course I’m listening."
"No, you’re not. You’re thinking about Alex again."
I blushed and looked down at my menu.
We were sitting at a table outside a small café in the center of town, waiting for our other best friend to arrive.
I’d been looking forward to this all week, but now that it was actually happening, I couldn’t concentrate on anything else but Alex.
"I am not," I said, even though we both knew it was a lie.
"Okay, fine. I am. But can you blame me? He’s been acting so weird lately."
Sarah rolled her eyes and took a sip of her iced tea.
"He has not been acting weird. You’re just obsessed with him."
I fidgeted with my menu, feeling exposed under Sarah's knowing gaze.
Her eyes seemed to bore into my soul, as if she could see the tangled mess of emotions inside me.
My heart raced as I recalled Alex's recent lingering glances and subtle touches.
The air between us crackled with an unspoken intensity, a silent storm brewing just beneath the surface.2222222
Sarah leaned closer, her voice barely above a whisper, "You should talk to him."
I hesitated, fear of ruining our friendship gnawing at my insides like a rat in the walls.
Just then, Alex arrived, his presence electrifying the air like a summer storm.

He greeted us with a warm smile, but his eyes lingered on me a moment too long, sending shivers down my spine.
Sarah nudged me under the table, urging me to act, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
My mind whirled with possibilities and consequences, torn between desire and loyalty like a rope being pulled in opposite directions.

The sounds of the café – clinking cups, murmured conversations, and the distant hum of traffic – faded into the background as I locked eyes with Alex.
For a moment, it was just us, suspended in a bubble of tension and anticipation.
