Love me or hate me
I have been in love with Chris Anderson since the day I met him and the sad thing about it is that he doesn't love me back.
He doesn't know that I love him and if I told him, then he would probably hate me.
Chris doesn't know it but I have been in love with him for the past ten years.
It started when we were in kindergarten.
It was a beautiful sunny day outside and all the kids were playing their games.
I was the new student and I didn't know where to sit because it was my first day.
That's when I saw him, sitting by himself at a table.
He was eating his lunch and reading his book.
I walked over to his table and asked him if it was okay if I sat on the seat in front of him.
He looked up from his book and smiled.
"Sure," he said softly.
"What's your name?"
"Is Domo Martinez. What's yours?"
I asked him.
"Chris Anderson. Nice to meet you, Domo," he said, shaking my hand three times.
After that day, we always sat together during lunch together and soon we became best friends.
We started to hang out together every single day and his parents began to like me.
They liked me so much that they decided to take me under their care.
I sat at the Andersons' kitchen table, tapping my fingers against the wood.
Chris's parents were busy preparing dinner and I was sitting there waiting for them to finish so that I could eat.
I had been thinking about something for a while now and I needed someone to talk to.
I took a deep breath and then blurted out, "I need your advice."
They stopped what they were doing and gave me their full attention.
"What is it, Domo?" asked Mrs. Anderson.
"It's about Chris," I said softly.
"I think I'm in love with him."
Mr. Anderson nodded his head thoughtfully while Mrs. Anderson smiled sweetly.
"We've suspected as much," said Mrs. Anderson softly.
"But you need to tell him yourself."
I nodded my head.
"But what if he doesn't feel the same way?" I asked, my voice trembling slightly.
"That's a risk you'll have to take, Domo," Mr. Anderson replied gently.
"Sometimes, the truth is worth the chance of losing something you cherish."
The bell rang, signaling lunch.
I grabbed my bag and walked out of the classroom.
I headed to our usual spot under the oak tree.
My heart was pounding in my chest as I thought about what I was going to do.
I was going to tell Chris how I felt about him.
I had been thinking about it for a while now and I knew it was time to do it.
I reached the tree and saw that Chris was already there, laughing with Mason.
Mason saw me coming and gave me a wink before getting up and walking away.
Chris looked up from his phone and saw me standing there.
He smiled at me but when he saw the serious look on my face, his smile faltered.
"Domo, what's up?" he asked, concern etched on his face.
"There's something important I need to tell you," I said, my voice shaking slightly.
"I love you, Chris."
I watched as the color drained from his face and his eyes widened in shock.
"Domo, I... I need some time," he stammered, taking a step back.
The words hung in the air like a heavy cloud.
He turned abruptly and walked away, leaving me standing there alone under the oak tree.
My heart sank as I watched him go, his shoulders tense.
I wanted to call after him but my voice caught in my throat.
Instead, I sat down on the grass, trying to process what had just happened.
I didn't sleep much that night, my mind racing with thoughts of what I was going to do next.
I decided that I needed to try and talk to Chris again, to see if he would listen.
The school day dragged on, each class feeling like an eternity.
Finally, the last bell rang and I got up from my seat.
I walked out of the classroom and down the hallway towards Chris's locker.
As I turned the corner, I saw him standing there, his face a mask of unreadable emotions.
Mason caught my eye and gave me a thumbs-up before walking off.
I took a deep breath and walked over to Chris.
"Chris," I called softly.
He turned to look at me, his eyes searching mine for something.
"Can we talk?" he asked, his voice filled with apprehension.
I nodded, gesturing for him to follow me.
We slipped out of the bustling hallway and into the crisp afternoon air.
The path behind the school led to a secluded trail through the woods, a place we often went to get away from it all.
The silence between us was thick as we walked, the only sound being the crunch of leaves beneath our feet.
I glanced over at Chris, his jaw set in determination.
He didn't say anything for a while, just kept walking.
Finally, he broke the silence.
"I needed some space to think," he admitted, his voice filled with emotion.
I stopped, turning to face him.
"What did you figure out?" I asked, my heart pounding in anticipation.
He hesitated, then met my eyes. "I realized that I've been scared of losing what we have, but maybe it's worth the risk."
My breath caught in my throat as hope flickered to life within me.
The forest around us was quiet, the only sound being the rustle of leaves.
I took a step closer to him, my heart pounding in my chest.
He looked at me, his eyes searching mine.
I reached out and took his hand in mine, feeling a surge of electricity run through me.
"Let's take that risk together," I said, my voice shaking slightly.
He looked down at our joined hands, then back up at me, a small smile playing on his lips.
He squeezed my hand gently, his smile fading as he took a deep breath.
"Domo," he said softly, his voice steady but filled with emotion.
"I think we should stay friends for now."
My heart dropped, but I nodded, trying to hide the disappointment that threatened to overwhelm me.
"I understand," I whispered, releasing his hand.
We stood there for a moment, the silence between us like an unspoken promise.
Chris shifted uncomfortably, glancing at the ground before meeting my eyes again.
"I just need time to sort things out," he explained softly.
I forced a smile, determined to respect his decision.
"I get it," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
He nodded, his eyes still locked on mine.
"Thanks, Domo," he said, his voice filled with gratitude.
I watched as he turned and walked away, the forest seeming emptier without him.
I stood there for a moment, my thoughts swirling, before turning back towards the school.
As I entered the hallway, Lily approached me with her usual confident stride.
"Hey, Domo," she said, her eyes gleaming with curiosity.
"How did it go with Chris?"
I hesitated, unsure of how much to share.
"We're... figuring things out," I replied cautiously.
Lily smirked knowingly but didn't press further.
I lingered in the hallway, feeling her gaze still on me.
Before she could ask more questions, Mason appeared, his grin firmly in place.
"Hey, Domo," he greeted me, his voice light but his eyes concerned.
Lily took a step back, sensing the shift in the room.
Mason leaned casually against the locker beside me, effectively blocking Lily's view.
"How are you holding up?" he asked quietly, his tone genuinely caring.
I shrugged nonchalantly, trying to downplay my emotions.
"I'm okay," I replied, though my voice betrayed a hint of vulnerability.
Mason nodded, offering a reassuring pat on my shoulder.
"You know, I was thinking," he said, his voice filled with a mischievous glint.
"We could skip class today."
I raised an eyebrow, surprised by his suggestion.
Mason's grin grew wider.
"Think about it," he continued.
"The hallway is crowded. The cafeteria is a mess. And honestly, who needs algebra right now?"
His words resonated with me, and I found myself nodding in agreement.
"Let's do it," I said, a smile spreading across my face.
Mason chuckled, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
"Come on then," he said, gesturing towards the nearest exit.
We slipped out of the side door, avoiding the prying eyes of the teachers.
The air outside was crisp and refreshing, carrying the scent of freshly cut grass.
We walked towards the quiet bleachers by the football field, finding a secluded spot to sit together.
Mason settled beside me, his usual humor momentarily replaced by a rare seriousness.
"You know Chris cares about you, right?" he asked, watching me closely for any signs of distress.
I nodded slowly, unsure of where this conversation was headed.
"He's just scared," Mason continued, his voice filled with empathy.
"He's just... stuck in his ways," Mason continued.
"He needs time to figure things out."
I shifted uncomfortably on the cold metal bleacher, watching a few stray leaves dance across the empty football field.
Mason's words echoed in my head, but I couldn't bear another minute dissecting my love life.
"Tell me about that new video game you've been obsessing over," I said, forcing a smile onto my face.
Mason's eyes lit up immediately, and he launched into an animated description of boss battles and character upgrades.
I let his excited chatter wash over me, grateful for the distraction from my own thoughts.
As Mason described the final level, he paused suddenly, his expression turning serious again.
"Actually, there's something else I need to tell you," he said, lowering his voice.
I turned to him, sensing the weight of his words.
