I loved a man, and he loved me too.
He had a wife and I knew that I would never have a future with him.
However, I could not stop loving him, even if it meant heartbreak.
I stared out the window at the city lights before Lucas and I.
He was holding my hand in his, and his eyes were on me.
It was as if he could see right through me.
"I am sorry," Lucas said softly.
"I wish that I could leave her for you. I know that it sounds selfish, but I want to be with you. You are the one that I love."
I felt tears rise in my eyes.
I did not want him to feel guilty.
I knew that he could never be with me.
It was not because of his love for me; it was because of his obligations to his family.
He had a wife that he did not love, but he could not leave her because of their child.
I knew that it was not fair to ask him to choose between us.
"Please do not apologize. It is not your fault. You cannot help who you love. I want you to be happy, even if it is not with me."
I felt a coldness in his eyes before he looked away from me.
I knew that he could never be happy with his wife.
She did not deserve him, and neither did I.
Love Beyond Boundaries
I leaned closer to him and rested my head on his shoulder.
My heart felt heavy with acceptance.
The city lights blurred through the window as I breathed in his scent.
His hand tightened around mine, and I felt his wedding ring press against my skin.
The cold metal reminded me of our reality.
I straightened up and pulled my hand away from him gently.
He started to protest, but I shook my head.
Looking directly into his eyes, I saw the pain and longing that mirrored my own.
"Lucas, what if I told you there's a way we could be together without hurting anyone?"
His eyes widened, a flicker of hope mingling with disbelief.
Love Beyond Boundaries
"What do you mean? How is that even possible?"
I led him to a small alcove near the window, away from prying eyes.
My hands trembled slightly as I pulled out two plane tickets from my purse.
I had purchased them earlier that day, a spontaneous decision fueled by desperation and longing.
"Lucas, what if we could start over somewhere else? A city where no one knows us, where we could leave all our obligations behind?"
His eyes widened as he took the tickets from my hand.
He studied them intently, his fingers tracing the printed destination as if it held a secret only he could decipher.
The silence stretched between us, thick with anticipation and uncertainty.
Lucas shifted uncomfortably in his seat, his gaze fixed on the tickets.
I watched as his wedding ring caught the dim light of the room, a constant reminder of our complicated reality.
Finally, he looked up, his eyes locking with mine.
Love Beyond Boundaries
"I..."I pressed my finger to his lips, silencing him before he could speak.
I pull the tickets from my purse again, hands trembling as I spread them on the small café table between us.
Lucas stares at them, his coffee growing cold and untouched.
The evening crowd bustles around us, but we remain frozen in our private bubble of tension.
His fingers trace the departure time - 11:45 PM, just hours away.
I've already packed a small bag, hidden in my car outside.
When Lucas reaches across the table and grips my hand, his wedding ring catches the overhead light.
"I need to go home first," he says quietly.
"To get my passport."
"Are you sure about this?" I ask, my voice barely above a whisper.
He nods, determination mingling with fear in his eyes.
Love Beyond Boundaries
"If we're doing this, we need to do it right."
I watch as he gathers his belongings from the table, his movements slow and deliberate.
The café is starting to clear out, the evening crowd thinning as closing time approaches.
When he stands to leave, I grab his wrist, pulling him back into his seat.
His eyes widen in surprise as I trace the smooth metal of his wedding ring with my fingertips.
The café workers start stacking chairs around us, their clattering echoing through the quieting space.
Love Beyond Boundaries
Lucas' cologne fills my senses as I lean closer, drawn by an overwhelming need to make this moment real.
Despite the public setting, despite knowing better, I can't stop myself.
