Lilly Cobalt, an American heiress, has sworn off sex and love after a failed friends-with-benefits situation, but when her safety is compromised by unwanted attention from the media, her bodyguard Dominic Santoro agrees to be her fake boyfriend to protect her.
I’m Lilly Cobalt, an American heiress and the marketing director of Cobalt Entertainment.
I’ve sworn off sex and love.
It’s not just about focusing on my career, but also about protecting my heart.
After a disastrous friends-with-benefits situation, I decided to take a break from dating and sex in general to keep myself from getting hurt again.
It’s been months since I made that decision, and I’ve been happy with it.
Sure, I get lonely sometimes, but I’ve been so focused on work that it hasn’t really bothered me.
I know what my goals are and what I want out of life, and if I want to achieve them, I can’t have some guy messing me up.
At least that’s what I’ve told myself.
Now, I’m at a charity event in New York City, a throng of people around me, all trying to get into the building at the same time.
I look over at my bodyguard, Dominic Santoro, who is standing beside me.
His dark eyes are scanning the crowd.
“Ready to go in?”
he asks with a smile.
I nod and he takes my hand, leading me through the crowd.
He’s been with me for six years now.
We met in college and he was recommended to me by a friend when I needed a bodyguard.
He’s always made me feel safe.
“Ms.Cobalt,” says a voice from beside me.
A paparazzo is standing there with his camera out.
“Would you care to make a statement about your father’s new business deal?”
“We’re just here for the charity event,” Dominic says with an even tone as he pulls me closer to him.
The photographer snaps a few photos of us and then starts firing off questions.
“Are you dating your business partner, Alex Ochoa?”
he asks as another man steps up to him and shoves him back into the crowd.
“You have no comment!”
the second man yells as they both disappear into the throng of people around us.
“I don’t know how they found out we were here,” Dominic mutters as he scans the crowd.
“They’ll probably leave once we’re inside.”
I frown as we make our way past security and through the front doors of the building.
We’re immediately swarmed by reporters who try to take pictures of us and ask questions as we move through the lobby and head toward the ballroom for the event that’s being held there.
What if they don’t leave?”
I ask in a low voice as I look up at him.
