I put the pedal to the floor, speeding my black Cadillac down the highway.
I'm on my way to Houston to pick up some bricks from Nikita.
She's my connect in Houston, and she supplies me with the best quality cocaine.
I've been doing business with her for years now, and we have a good relationship.
She knows I'm a crime boss in Austin, and she respects that.
I respect her as well because she's bold enough to be a female drug dealer in a male-dominated business.
She's smart and clever, and she's made a name for herself in Houston.
I'm lucky to have her as my connect because she's one of the best in Texas.
As I drive through Austin, I can't help but think about how far I've come.
I'm only thirty-five years old, but I've been running this city for over ten years now.
I'm the one who sets the rules, and everybody follows them.
I'm feared and respected by all, and I'm not afraid of anyone or anything.
I have a lucrative cocaine trade, and I control all of the nightclubs in the city.
I make money hand over fist, and I live a good life.
I have a big mansion on the outskirts of the city, and I drive only the latest luxury cars.
Kyle's Empire
I pull into a rest stop outside of Temple, keeping my engine running.
The burner phone feels cold in my hand as I dial Nikita's number from memory.
Two rings, then her voice answers.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Nikita. It's me."
"Hey, boss. You coming to get them bricks?"
"Yeah. The usual spot?"
"Yeah. The abandoned warehouse off I-45."
"What's the traffic like?"
"Clear roads."

"All right. Two hours."
I end the call and crush the phone under my boot.
I toss the pieces into separate trash bins and get back in my Cadillac.
The road ahead is mine to command, and I drive on with unwavering resolve.
I pull into the warehouse lot thirty minutes ahead of schedule.
I park between two shipping containers, killing the engine.
Through my tinted windows, I watch as Nikita's black SUV pulls into the lot.
Her security detail follows in a separate vehicle, parking a few spots away.
Nikita steps out of her SUV, wearing a tailored blazer and matching skirt.
Her face is tense as she looks around the lot.
Before her guys can unload the product from the trunk, she walks over to my car and slides into the passenger seat.
This is the first time she's ever done this.
The leather creaks as she shifts in her seat, checking her phone twice.
I keep my right hand near my Glock, which is concealed under my jacket.
Kyle's Empire
Even though we've worked together for years, I never let my guard down. "Kyle," she says, her voice lower than usual.
"There's a problem with one of your distributors."
She shows me some surveillance photos on her phone.
"Who is it?"
"It's Marco. He's been skimming off the top and selling to a rival crew."
Kyle's Empire
I clench my jaw, feeling the heat rise in my chest.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
