我爱上了一只猫娘,而现在她是我唯一想要在一起的人。这种感觉是相互的——她也想和我在一起。
Kazuki Hayato
introspective, and headstrong. After falling for a girl with cat features, he becomes consumed by her presence. Kazuki struggles with social isolation and the pressures of his new environment, but her affection and support mean everything to him. His bond with her brings him a sense of belonging and purpose, overshadowing everything else.
Mikan
reserved, and kind. Mikan has a unique appearance with feline features, which initially starts Kazuki's infatuation. Her shy nature causes her to blend into the background, but her warm interactions with Kazuki reveal her sweet demeanor. She reciprocates his feelings, creating a deep connection that becomes the center of Kazuki's world and his desire for acceptance in their school environment.
Shizuku
friendly, and supportive. Shizuku notices the growing bond between Mikan and Kazuki and often helps bridge the gap between them by delivering small gifts or messages. While not a central figure in the narrative, her actions contribute to creating a welcoming atmosphere that allows Mikan and Kazuki to connect more freely, despite the social challenges they face in their new surroundings.
I was an outcast at the academy.
I wasn't liked and was always ignored.
Then I fell in love with a catgirl.
Her name was Mikan.
She had also been transferred to this prestigious academy like me.
She was gentle and kind, and even though she had cat ears and a tail, she was beautiful.
I couldn't stop thinking about her.
I yearned for her every day.
I wanted to be with her and only her.
That's how much I loved her.
And fortunately, she felt the same way about me.
She wished to be with me every day, just like I did.
So we met up in secret after school every day to be together.
We would talk and laugh, and sometimes we would just sit next to each other in comfortable silence.
It didn't matter what we did as long as I was with her.
I loved everything about her, even the way she breathed.
"Kazuki."
"Mikan!"
I turned around and smiled when I saw her walking towards me, carrying her bag.
She stopped in front of me and smiled back, and then she leaned forward to kiss me softly on the lips before pulling away.
"I'm glad we're meeting up today," she said, looking up at me with her big green eyes.
"I was thinking the same thing," I said back to her, taking hold of her hand.
I led her up the narrow stairwell to the academy rooftop.
The metal steps echoed our footsteps as we climbed higher and higher, and I could feel Mikan's hand gripping mine tighter with each step.
Her tail swished back and forth behind her like a nervous cat's, and I couldn't help but smile at how cute she looked.
When we reached the door to the rooftop, I paused to check if anyone else was around before pushing it open.
The evening air hit us like a cool breeze, carrying with it the scent of fresh grass and blooming flowers.
Mikan's ears perked up at the sound of the wind, and I could see her nostrils flaring slightly as she took in the scents around us.
We walked over to the fence that ran along the edge of the rooftop, and there, spread out before us, was the entire city.
It was bathed in an orange light that seemed to grow brighter with every passing minute, as if the sun itself were setting fire to the horizon. I felt Mikan lean against my shoulder as we stood there, taking in the view together.
Her warmth seeped through my uniform and into my skin, sending shivers down my spine.
The sun continued its slow descent towards the horizon, casting long shadows across the city below us.
As it dipped lower and lower, it painted the clouds in brilliant hues of red and orange and purple, creating a breathtaking sunset that seemed to stretch on forever.
And then, just as suddenly as it had begun, it was over.
The sun disappeared below the horizon, leaving behind only a faint glow that slowly faded away into darkness.
In that moment, as the stars began to emerge, I knew we had found our own piece of eternity.
As we prepared to head back inside, Mikan suddenly stiffened beside me.
Her ears twitched forward, and she reached into the pocket of her uniform.
She pulled out a small, weathered envelope and held it in her trembling hands.
"I found this earlier," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of the wind.
"It was hidden behind a loose panel in the library."
She handed it to me, and I took it from her, feeling the rough texture of the paper beneath my fingertips.
The academy's old seal was stamped in the corner, partially worn away by time.
I turned it over and examined the back, noticing that it was sealed with a single drop of wax.
I looked up at Mikan, who was watching me with wide eyes.
"What is it?"
I asked her, my voice barely above a whisper.
"I don't know," she replied, her tail twitching nervously behind her.
"But I think it might be important."
I nodded and carefully broke the seal on the envelope.
Inside, I found a folded piece of paper with a letter written in elegant handwriting. As I unfolded it, I noticed that the paper was yellowed with age and had a faint scent of lavender wafting from its pages.
I held it up to the dim glow of the rooftop lights and began to read:
"To whoever finds this letter,
I hope that you are reading these words in a time when peace and prosperity have returned to our world.
If you are, then know that we fought hard for what we have today.
We faced many challenges and overcame countless obstacles along the way.
But through it all, we remained steadfast in our commitment to one another and to our cause.
And so, as you stand here now, know that you are part of something much greater than yourself.
You are part of a community that values courage, compassion, and determination above all else.
Never forget that.
Sincerely,
A friend"
I finished reading the letter and looked up at Mikan, who was watching me with tears in her eyes. "What does it mean?" she asked softly.
I shook my head slowly.
"I'm not sure," I admitted truthfully.
"But I think it might be connected to something bigger than ourselves."
Mikan nodded thoughtfully and reached out to take hold of my hand again.
I tucked the letter into my jacket pocket as the first drops of rain began to fall.
Mikan's ears flattened against her head at the sudden gust of wind that blew across the rooftop.
We turned to leave, but when I pulled on the metal door's handle, it wouldn't budge.
I tried again, harder this time, rattling it against the frame.
The lock had somehow engaged from the inside.
Thunder rumbled in the distance as Mikan pressed closer to me, her tail wrapping around my leg.
The rain intensified, soaking through our uniforms and chilling us to the bone.
I pulled out my phone to call Shizuku for help, but there was no signal.
Mikan looked up at me, her eyes wide with a mix of fear and determination.
"We can't stay out here, Kazuki," she said, her voice barely audible over the storm.
I nodded, trying to think quickly. "There's another way down," I remembered, "through the maintenance hatch on the far side."
Lightning flashes illuminated the rooftop as I gripped Mikan's hand tightly and led her through the downpour.
Her wet ears were flattened against her head, and her soaked uniform clung to her shivering form.
Water streamed down my face, making it hard to see as I scanned the concrete surface for any sign of the hatch I'd spotted before.
Thunder crashed overhead, causing Mikan to jump closer to me.
I pulled out my phone again and turned on its flashlight, sweeping the beam across the ground.
The light caught a metal handle partially hidden behind an AC unit.
We splashed through growing puddles towards it, my shoes squeaking against the wet surface.
Mikan's voice trembled as she asked, "Do you think this hatch will even open in this weather?"
I nodded, trying to sound more confident than I felt. "It has to; it's our only chance of getting out of here."
She squeezed my hand tighter, her eyes reflecting the flashes of lightning. "Then let's do it together."
I braced my feet against the wet rooftop and gripped the rusted hatch handle with both hands.
Mikan watched anxiously, her tail swishing in the rain.
The metal groaned as I pulled upward with all my might.
At first, it resisted, but then gave way with a screech that was lost in the thunder.
A dark passage gaped open before us.
I clicked on my phone's flashlight again, casting a weak beam down into the depths.
Steep metal stairs descended into shadows, water streaming down from above to create a small waterfall at the opening.
Mikan squeezed closer to me, her wet uniform brushing against mine.
"This way," I said, guiding her towards the opening.
The stairs were slippery and narrow, with a thin railing that offered little reassurance.
I kept the phone's light trained on the steps ahead, trying to avoid any missteps.
Mikan followed closely behind, her eyes fixed on the beam of light as it cast long shadows on the walls.
As we descended, the sound of dripping water echoed in the passage, mingling with the distant rumble of thunder.
The air was damp and musty, filled with the smell of rust and decay.
Halfway down, my light caught something wedged against the wall.
A dark shape that didn't belong in this forgotten space.
I slowed my steps, curiosity piqued.
Mikan noticed my hesitation and peered over my shoulder. "What is it?"
I reached out a hand to touch the object, feeling weathered fabric beneath my fingers.
It was a backpack, stuck between the railing and wall.
I tugged at it gently, trying not to dislodge anything else from above.
Mikan steadied me as I pulled the pack free, its contents clattering softly inside.
The zipper was stiff from years of disuse, but eventually gave way under my persistence.
Inside, neatly packed clothes and emergency supplies lay waiting: flashlights, bandages, protein bars, and a water bottle.
I steadied myself against the railing as water dripped onto my phone screen, trying to keep the light beam focused ahead.
The backpack's weight pulled at my shoulder while Mikan gripped the back of my wet uniform.
Suddenly, a deep rumble vibrated through the metal stairs.
The whole structure groaned and swayed.
Mikan's frightened gasp echoed off the walls as chunks of concrete crashed down behind us.
I yanked her forward just as a cascade of debris filled the stairwell above.
The impact sent tremors through the steps, and dust mixed with rain in our faces.
